May 16th is the beginning of Vancouver, BC's ARTROPOLIS exhibition. Artists have been selected from over 450 entries representing an intriguing variety of media and disciplines. Located at the CBC Television Studios in the heart of downtown Vancouver, this years theme is; The Big Picture: Artists Perspective on Change.
What you will see:
Three Curated Exhibitions:
Art in Exile, curated by Vjeko Sager explores the process of globalization as experienced on a personal level. Artworks will include a search for identity through concepts such as separation and adaptation, revolt, and isolation.
Here, curated by Donna Szoke. Artists examine the ways in which the human body is a force in the world. Representations from the sensual to the confrontational.
Residue, curated by Pauline Conley invites the artist to document the migration of rural residents to larger urban centers. Artists from rural and urban areas will exhibit themes centering on human impact on the landscape and the relics left behind. The Juried Exhibition:
The panel, chosen from British Columbias arts and cultural community includes:
Jane Irwin, Page Hope-Smith and Amir Ali Alibhai.
Adjunct Exhibition:
The Human Image in the Landscape organized by A.T. Eight Artropolis president Ed Varney, provides a spectrum of creativity that exhibits emerging talent with established icons of the B.C. cultural scene.
ARTROPOLIS is British Columbia's deviantART. It is all volunteer bases by artists and art lovers. That means EVERYTHING that involves the show is done by people like you and me for free. (and it actually gets done very well! *grin*) Artists are given pretty much free reign to come up with whatever their warped little creative minds can spit out. The result, of course, is the cutting edge, bottom line. I had the privilage of seeing the exhibition early and it ROCKS!
