Personas: Lightweight themeing for Firefox!

=edmunn:iconedmunn: reports, July 15
Personas are lightweight, easy to install and easy to change “skins” for your Firefox web browser.

Personas builds upon the ideas that:
Themes today are too hard to find, install and use

Graphic designers should be able to style the browser without having to code

Browsers can be more than just desktop software, they can include online components

People just want their computer to be a little more fun and personal

Labs has just begun exploring the possible benefits of an online component to deliver a better browser experience. There much to explore in this regard; Personas is a simple example. Persona selector is dynamically loaded and populated from a JSON feed and all designs are loaded via URLs to remote resources. All changes to the browser chrome are applied instantly, with no need to restart.

It's a very good system, and I recomend trying it out to get the most from Firefox!

Introducing the new MyIE2.

~garfield101:icongarfield101: reports, May 17, 2003
Have you ever wondered if Internet Explorer will have the tabbed navigation the way Netscape does? Wonder no more, because now it do!

MyIE2 was developed by Sic/Cyan. Its main objective was to let the users have multiple web pages open in just one Internet Explorer window just like the way Netscape does. This program supports the plugins that Internet Explorer has and it also will remember all the sites you visited in case you got disconnected in the Internet.

Seems to me IE's slow enough as it is. I can't see this helping. Besides, MS products really don't deal well with skins or hacks.

I've heard good things about it, however, imho Firebird [link] (the browser formally known as Phoenix :p (Lick) ) is the best out there.
~silent-plummet:iconsilent-plummet: May 17, 2003, 11:49:10 AM
Agreed. Stick IE in the shit-can, folks, let people know you're tired of Microsoft's BS. Download Firebird and be free again.

hmm...Opera is much faster and can do the exactly the same stuff as ie can now..so i'm gonna stick with opera.

it's a VERY good software.

however i swichted to Firebird (Phoenix) because of the weight of MYie when you have 20+ tabs opened (as i always do)

with 20+ tabs :

MyIE : about 140 Mo

Firebird : about 75 Mo

you decide.

Folks...seriously, try this. Even if you utterly hate IE, MyIE2 is the solution to IE browsing. If you do like the feel of internet explorer, but not the suckiness of it, trust me, it's the way to go. I haven't tried this firebird thing yet (and I will) but I can assure you that, if you're just using the normal browser right now, you won't be dissapointed. Don't be so quick to dis the program without even trying it. I've been using it for a few months now, and don't have a complaint. Now I'm going to try this "firebird" thing ^^
`l-courni:iconl-courni: May 17, 2003, 12:39:49 PM
oh, "firebird" is actually the new name of Pheonix (Mozilla) browser, btw

see the other news ;) (Wink)

Oh, and by the way...

I just tried the newest build of "Firebird" you linked to. I fiddled around with the options some..and found it to be very, very empty. And, surprisingly, slower than MyIE2. About half the loading time, in fact. Perhaps it's just the settings, but...I'm quite happy with the functionality and speed of IE2. You all may debate amongst yerselves ;) (Wink)
