Project Manip Mentor

reports, March 5Are you new to creating Art, specifically photo-manipulation? Have you ever questioned how someone did something and been truly inspired to learn? Have some tutorials left you more confused, or not given you all you desired? Or are you a person who has gained much from the DA community and grown into a wonderful artist with knowledge to share?
If you have answered yes to any of these questions, then please read further.
I've been blessed to be apart of the DA community for years, reading tutorials, receiving feedback though learning most things on my own as do so many other Artists.. Over time, we all expand in some form (and not just weight!) as we get older. However, like anything, some times it does help to have that extra push, words of encouragement or the know how on how to improve.
Manip Mentor is a Group that I have founded in the hopes of starting a Mentoring program for aspiring artists on DA who are looking to improve in some fashion, or are just starting out and are completely confused (and haven't we ALL been there?). The goal of Manip Mentor is to bring people together, those with some skill and those with minimal skills who are wanting to learn more.
The concept would ideally put One Mentor with three to five "students", and for a one month period those students will be given projects / themed artwork by that Mentor to create to follow up with extensive critique, Do-overs, mini tutorials and more in order to give examples of how the image could be improved. After one month, the session is complete and new students are taken on and the cycle begins again. Students who have “graduated” will then become Contributors and will be able to post one piece of art, per month to the Gallery to reflect improvements over time.
The Group is currently in beta (meaning I'm working on it!) but I'd like to get the word out there that both Mentors and students would be wonderful and are needed to make this work. It would mean some extra devotion of time on both parties, but the sheer satisfaction of helping out another along with it.
If you are interested in being a Mentor, please contact me / note me. The number of students / members accepted into the Group will depend on the number of Mentors we have, AND how many students they can take. Ideally I would love to get something going by the middle of the month.
While Manip Mentor is focused on Photo Manipulation and Digital Mixed Media, it could also be expanded into other groups and genres across DA. If you are interested in making your own Mentor Group, please let me know and we can set up an affiliation.
Due to the nature of the Club, Membership will of course be limited to what the Mentor’s can handle that month, however your application will be placed upon the waiting list and provided the Mentors have availability for the following sessions, you will then be placed accordingly.
This Group will have some rigid rules that need to be followed in order to make it work. If you are not prepared to do so, then please understand the group isn’t for you. It isn’t about popularity, there are plenty groups that can provide that! xD

Projeto Puma: Sumatran Tiger Expedition

We are willing to help WWF's Save Sumatra program, and local agencies to protect the species. We'll also be recording forest elephants and clouded leopards on forest trails while in central Sumatra, to cite just a few of the amazing species we are aiming to record.

248 Art A Day Challenge

The only way to become a better artist is to keep on drawing, isn't that so? "Practice makes perfect" is one of the best sayings ever, and while we all hate having to wait years to become the artists we want to be, it's worth it in the end!
So, this is a challenge to better your art, push yourself during 2010, and see how much you can grow as an artist!
There are 260 weekdays in a year. We have missed the first 7 days, but at this point there are 258 weekdays. The goal of this challenge is to get interested artists to draw a piece of art every day. They can be big or small, traditional or digital. But no photos, since this is all about having a pen or pencil or tablet pen in your hand! It can even be a sketch in your book margin or a great big masterpiece. Then you'll submit your drawings into a folder in your gallery. Basically, between the 19th of January and the 31st of December 2010, every involved artist would have posted 248 pictures.
It's not like the 100 Theme challenge, because you're not limited in any way at all. You can draw horses, dogs, cats, unicorns, humans, absolutely anything! Whatever you draw, it's in the aim of becoming a better artist, learning something new, trying something different. Not only will you have the knowledge of how to draw it but you will perhaps find that you enjoy drawing it and will draw more of that particular thing!
Once you've completed this year, you'll be able to look back at what you've drawn, and be proud that you've worked so hard! At the end of the year, your final drawing can be a redraw of your first drawing, to see just how much you've learnt and improved!
It's open to absolutely everyone, and we can all grow together as artists in our community and have fun at the same time!

You can start the challenge from the 19th of January. Don't be scared, just draw and have as much fun as possible! 
This challenge was created by and in memory of Ziven Shirokii, aka *Winged-Horse and ~Z1ven. It is to honour his memory, and he always wanted to see other artists do better. For all his friends, think of him when you take on this challenge and remember him.
