Google Project 10 to the 100

¢mindfuckx:iconmindfuckx: reports, September 25
"At Google, we don't believe we have the answers, but we do believe the answers are out there. Maybe in a lab, or a company, or a university -- but maybe not.

Maybe the answer that helps somebody is in your head, in something you've observed, some notion that you've been fiddling with, some small connection you've noticed, some old thing you have seen with new eyes.
If you have an idea that you believe would help somebody, we want to hear about it. We're looking for ideas that help as many people as possible, in any way, and we're committing the funding to launch them. You can submit your ideas and help vote on ideas from others. Final idea selections will be made by an advisory board."

Google will donate a $10 million sponsorship to the top 5 ideas.

Pxl SmartScale

~phosphoretic:iconphosphoretic: reports, July 25, 2003
With its ability to resize digital images up to 1600% of the original size with no discernable loss in print quality.

Whether you’re a photographer, graphic designer or printing professional, a common problem creative professionals face is having to repurpose, for example, a postcard sized image for a poster size output. Up until now, options have been limited for this type of task and often produced less-than-perfect results.

But the concept of scaling images is changing thanks to SmartScale. SmartScale is the next great Photoshop Plug-in from Extensis. Powered by PixelLive, Celartem Technology's advanced scaling solution, SmartScale creates high quality scaled images by preserving the color and brightness data contained in the original image. SmartScale combines this advanced scaling technology with Extensis’ signature intuitive, workflow-friendly interface, making easy work out of scaling. Users can now scale images up to 1600% with no discernible loss in printed quality. Since every image is unique, SmartScale gives you the power to refine the scale details, putting control over your end results in your hands.

Too bad it's only the low price of Mac/Win $199.95 USD. Although, it does have a free trial. I have other image resizer plugins, which IMHO, worked well, better than SmartScale -- and they were free to 45 dollars. I mean, it's a really simple piece of code it just doubles and buffers and repeats. Sadly, I can't suggest this as the results were not as perfect as you mentioned. See, all of that Smart Scale technology is nothing new and with a little bit of time and a lot of dedication, one could make a plugin just like this. MAYBE, if it was an external application the price would be reasonable, but I fail to see the innovative code or a real reason to purchase this. Not only does one have to have an expensive Photo Suite (ie PS), he or she would have to buy a very small peice of code which just improves on known code. I'm sorry, but I do not think that this is a great piece of software, let alone a plugin.

More like 609 dollars :P (Lick) Cheapest I found PS 7 is for... 420 dollars. I think he was talking about Photoshop elements... or something -- I beleive that's a lot cheaper.

Of course, it's not like I've paid for anything in my life... I obtained it through psuedo-legal resources *crosses fingers and hopes you don't know what psuedo means*

Er, actually, I plan on buying the stuff once I have over -400 USD to my name. Stupid bills.
