Google Project 10 to the 100

¢mindfuckx:iconmindfuckx: reports, September 25
"At Google, we don't believe we have the answers, but we do believe the answers are out there. Maybe in a lab, or a company, or a university -- but maybe not.

Maybe the answer that helps somebody is in your head, in something you've observed, some notion that you've been fiddling with, some small connection you've noticed, some old thing you have seen with new eyes.
If you have an idea that you believe would help somebody, we want to hear about it. We're looking for ideas that help as many people as possible, in any way, and we're committing the funding to launch them. You can submit your ideas and help vote on ideas from others. Final idea selections will be made by an advisory board."

Google will donate a $10 million sponsorship to the top 5 ideas.
So what are you still doing here ?

New Knoppix Release v3.3 (11-14-03)

`hameed:iconhameed: reports, November 14, 2003
Knoppix Live Debian Linux CD, is a Free bootable CD containing a fully working version of Linux OS that does not need to be installed on your system. It doesnt even require a hard disk, and will run on pretty much any machine. So you can try it, without ever having to install it, and its completely free.

Knoppix is an ideal learning tool for those interested in Linux or for the plain curious. Put simply its a "complete operating system on a bootable CD".

When you boot from the CD it automatically configures itself to your machine, it automatically installs your sound, video, broadband internet, and CD/RW among other things. The whole thing runs in memory and doesn’t even require you to have a hard disk, all you have to do when your finished is just take out the CD and reboot.

The latest build includes :

- Euro symbol works again in konsole, but font scanning at startup is slow fontconfig?)
- Added bittorrent ncurses client
- ALSA package update
- "knoppix testcd" option is now more verbose.
- Changed default timings in monitor detection (may give better results with DDC-capable monitors, but you will probably have to use "knoppix vsync=60" for non-DDC-capable TFT displays).
- the usual bunch of Debian package updates

It really has to be experienced to be believed.

Very cool of coarse! Works well like it always does.

I've used it on a Pent. 4 2.4c
a Compaq Presario 700 labtop
& a old emachines 700mhz Celery. :)

Knoppix Rules:!:

I also like the Slackware-live distro. It fits on a mini CD. Very neat.

incidentally, i've also tried a couple of other live cd's. slackware and gentoo, respectively. slackware is pretty alright, gentoo is ass. but knoppix trumps them both.
