This is part four of my weekly feature: Undiscovered. This is a feature of people I come across on DA who I feel deserve way more recognition. It is quite astonishing how many wondeful artists on DA go unnoticed. Please give them your support!

I Am A Child

*nine9nine9:iconnine9nine9: reports, 1d 15h ago
My little girl is so magical. With a smile she can brighten my world. The glow in her eyes when she tells one of her stories melts away all of the day's problems and concerns. For me, having a child and being able to participate in her life, watch her grow and absorb the wonders of the world, completes me as a human being.

For my latest journal feature I am presenting a visual essay on children -- works by DA artists that beg to ask the question, "Is there anything more pure, more magical than a child?" Breaking up the photos are lyrics from Neil Young's brilliant song about children, "I Am A Child." If you want to listen to Neil's song while viewing the essay, right click on [link]

Please fave and comment on works you like -- it is the least we can do to honor the efforts of these amazing artists!

IStockPhoto

~stealthcow:iconstealthcow: reports, November 25, 2003
IStockPhoto has been around for a while now and is growing every day. If you want to make some money by allowing others to download your stock photos/vector work, then this is the place!

Another perk of submitting your own work is that you can change your earnings into download credits, so the next time you need a high quality photo for your own work, you will be able to browse through their database and find the perfect image.

at .10 a download I'll be paying off my lease in ...well, a long time. But, it's seems like a fun place to be for beginners!

I like the way the pro site works, it's a fun concept.

Just a fun fact: They listed that they sold 250,000 images last year. From those images sold 10 cents was paid to photographers for each image. That equals $25,000.

The company sold each of those 250,000 images at 50 cents each equaling $125,000. Of that only $25,000 went to the hundreds of artists providing the artwork which the business runs off of.

$100,000 doesn't sound like a lot of money to finance it; when you consider the volume of traffic they move (25 gig yesteday), and the labour cost of having people look at each image that gets submitted.

Maybe they should sell the photos for a bit more than 50 cents. Before the days of the internet, film stock photos costed a LOT more than 50 cents.

I have a few photos up there, and in 6 months I've made 40 cents. Woo Hoo! :p

From what I understand, stock agencies still sell photos for an ass-load of money each.

Professional photo-stock CDs are incredibly expensive. We're talking $250 US for a CD with 20 images. All things considered iStockPhoto is a pretty decent deal.

Anyone know how to break into the bigger agencies? I've got a bunch of photos laying around that i think would sell, but i'm not letting them go for a measly .10cents. Thats rediculous, besides if they download it, they can turn around and sell it themselves from istockphoto if they wanted to, to a bigger agency. But, any help with the stock agencies would be appreciated, thanks!

I think iStock is great. I go there, sxc and here (dA) for all my stock photo needs. of the three, iStock is the only place that charges is anything, but i think that's good. i don't think many people understand how much time is put into taking a set of photos, or even manipulating one. it's not always easy work. iStock at least gives something back to the artists for all their efforts. yeah, it may be a measley "10 cents" but it's better than nothing (hahah.... college student here. can ya tell?)

sorry if that didn't make sense. it's the middle of the night and i'm way past tired :p
