Stewart then completed the song with Bono earlier this year and the two of them recorded it as the first of a series of co-writes together for this campaign. Further recording sessions began in March of this year when Stewart was joined by Queen's Brian May and Roger Taylor in a studio in Cape Town to lay down tracks which would also see them working in collaboration with some of South Africa's premiere musicians.
Recordings have continued ever since, with Stewart, Bono, Brian May and Roger Taylor joining with a host of other leading world artists in sessions which have taken place in London, New York and Los Angeles. To date over a dozen new tracks have been completed, or are in the final stages of being recorded.
The first of these to be heard, with the launch of the 46664 'Give 1 Minute of Your Life To Stop AIDS' campaign will be 46664 (Long Walk to Freedom)' written by Joe Strummer, Bono and Dave Stewart, performed by Bono, Youssou N'Dour, and newcomer Abdel Wright, and People written by Dave Stewart and Jimmy Cliff, performed by Sting and Jimmy Cliff.
This will be followed over the coming weeks with a series of a further ensemble and solo tracks written variously and collectively by Bono and Dave Stewart, Queen, Mick Jones (with his version of 46664), Anastacia, The Neptunes, Johnny Clegg and many more being recorded by some of the World's most well known artists including Beyonce, Brian May, Ms Dynamite, Roger Taylor, Paul McCartney, Paul Oakenfold, and Timbaland.
