"It is not the province of the courts to rewrite the copyright law in order to make it fit a new and unforeseen Internet architecture, no matter how damaging that development has been to the music industry."
...and all over the US, millions of file-sharers breathe in relief. While this court ruling didn't address the hundreds of sharers that have already been targeted by the RIAA, it certainly will slow down new lawsuits; the RIAA can no longer just get names, they'll have to file 'John Doe' lawsuits in order to get that information -- something that probably won't stop them from doing so, but it'll be far more costly for them. It's about time this abuse of subpoenas was stopped -- filesharers, let's party like it's 1999... again!

"Europeans hate the English the same way the world hates Americans - but if you have to give those bastards one thing, it's a high sense of morality and ethics and the compulsive need to do the right thing."

I'm bored...
I see this as the natural development of this issue, and it is basic evolution.
The industries were making a killing on overpriced music.
The cosumer evolved and created p2p to get what they needed.
They industry evolved to maliciously pursue its own customers in order to curb its losses
The legal system evolved by opened its eyes to a dangerous trend in industry and how it copes with emerging technologies.
Its also sink or swim. You make a product that consumers want or you get left behind.

If money grew on trees you'd spend all your time raking. And nobody likes raking.
