`SparrowSong on writing, critique and her passions

^lovetodeviate:iconlovetodeviate: reports, September 28
An interview with writer, critic (critiquer?), lit senior, `SparrowSong. Here are some tidbits:

“I like that my passions change. If nothing else, it gives me more to write about.”

“Everyone has heard the expression, ‘Give a man a fish, he eats for a day; teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime.’ If you don’t learn to critique, you will always be dependent on others to help you instead of being able to do it by yourself.”

“Art changes how we view the surface of the world to reveal truth or beauty—or both—underneath.”

Writers: Want to see your story made into a movie?

=kmdigital:iconkmdigital: reports, January 13, 2004
Have you ever written, or thought of an interesting story? Did you think it would make a great movie, but had no idea how in the world to get anyone to make it into one? Now the talented writers here at DeviantART have the opportunity to see their stories made into movies.

KM Digital Studios, a production and design company from Cleveland, OH USA is planning to create a couple full length movies, and several short films through the course of this year. These films will be submitted to film-festivals, magazines, and various internet websites for viewing, as well as posted on websites uniquely created for each project. How cool would it be, for one or more of these movies to be based on a story you wrote? You get the credit, and the bragging writes for having written the story.

My name is Kevin Maistros. I'm a deviant here at this wonderful community. When I'm not surfing galleries here and being devious, I'm a full time filmmaker and director. Award winning even. Crazy huh? With the plans to create 2 feature lengths and countless shorts through this year, I decided I'd open the doors for those that wish to put their creativity to use. I'm not talking about cheesy home movies either. You can probably have seen some of my work on Fuse and/or Mtv/Mtv2, which should give you some idea as to the serious quality of these productions. :) Granted, I havn't made anything that's been in theatres nationwide but.. someday..... someday. Hopefully.

I love DeviantART. There's so many talented individuals here with amazing charisma and love. For those that are interested, I'm willing to take my time, money, and heart and create these films.. that could be based on one of your stories.

:bulletblue:Here's how it'd work.

Writers can submit their story synopsis to me by uploading the story synopsis to their DA account, and PMing (Private Messaging) me the link. Writers may also email them to me here: kevin@kmdstudios.com - Myself and several other screenwriters/directors that I work with will review the stories. If we want to use one of them, we'll contact you back and talk more about the concept. Pre-Production will start from there. Once pre-production is complete, we'll start filming. Then post production, and the release. Writers who's stories have been selected will recieve full credit for their story, bragging rights, and a VHS or DVD copy of the production. This would be a shiny sticker on anyone's resume.

Quite a great oppurtunity for the many writers at DA. I only hope this gets enough attention. Hopefully we'll see the end result someday.

Sounds great, I'm sure they'll get plenty of submissions.

Sounds very project greenlight. Not a bad idea at all.

Also to add: No genre restrictions. PG-13 to R intended stories are encouraged, but any others will be fine too. The biggest idea here is to not sensor yourself.

Wow, what a great initiative! I would quickly sum up everything I wanted in my story (Severe SeVeN) and upload it, but it would be an impossible thing to accomplish :( Even if I got it all together and sent it to you it wouldn't stand a chance for it needs an entire city and too much special FX. Too bad, but I am keeping this in mind though ;) Good luck to all the writers out there!

One more thing, what's the deadline?
~sweetncarin:iconsweetncarin: Jan 13, 2004, 12:40:40 PM
i think that this is a great idea but the only things is does it have to be about art or can it be just about anything. i am a very big movie person and i would love to see someone from DA to create one. I was just curious if it had to be on the line of Art or what exactly are they looking for.

An entire city is possible, and I'm sure anything that requires special effects is possible, too. I mean, we've made an entire city appear in a riot, then have them all knocked down and the city crumble because when a small child let out a huge scream. You could see chunks of the street elevating behind him.

So.. don't underestimate the possibilities. :)
