The TATE galleries (one of the UK's most pretigious galleries) presents a
free introductory course to Modern and Contemporary Art. The course is based around it's collection held at its Bankside gallery Tate Modern. The course leads you through a series of key themes and important 20th century artists, including Andy Warhol, Cornelia Parker and Pablo Picasso.
The Tate website describes the "...course [as] open to all, it is designed for people who might be new to modern or contemporary art, or new to learning in general. You may or may not have visited any one of the four Tate galleries. You may or may not have been to college to study art or any other subjects. In short, the course is for anyone, regardless of how much you know about art or about computers."
By the end of the introductory course you should find that you have a good grasp of some of the main talking points about both modern and contemporary art. You will also be familiar with artworks in the Tate Collection, as these are the main works that we will be looking at.
Although the introductory course is free, further courses require a fee (approx £95, or £45 for a concession). The course also requires that you have
flash player and
quicktime software installed.
