Design is increasingly recognised as a key competitive differentiator by countries aspiring to be international players. More and more of their companies are placing a high premium on the quality and design of their products and communications. As these companies build up their reputation and profile as design-led enterprises, design competitions and awards like the SDA are more than ever considered a strategic global benchmarking test and as a form of accolade for many globalising companies.

The Singapore Design Award (SDA) is a prestigious international award given to outstanding examples of innovations from all over the world. Launched by IE Singapore in 1988, the biennial SDA has been organised by the Designers Association Singapore (DAS) since 2000.

Over the years the SDA has attracted over 500 entries from Singapore and other countries in Asia and Europe. SDA is open to all Singapore and foreign based designs and the award competition categories cover:

* Product Design
* Graphic Design
* Interactive Design
* Packaging Design

A new category 'Design for Business Effectiveness' has been introduced this year to illustrate design's value-add contribution to business bottomlines and market growth.

SDA 04 call for entries is now launched and the closing date for entries is 12 noon, 30 July 2004. Participation fees start from SGD 100 per entry.
