Google Project 10 to the 100

¢mindfuckx:iconmindfuckx: reports, September 25
"At Google, we don't believe we have the answers, but we do believe the answers are out there. Maybe in a lab, or a company, or a university -- but maybe not.

Maybe the answer that helps somebody is in your head, in something you've observed, some notion that you've been fiddling with, some small connection you've noticed, some old thing you have seen with new eyes.
If you have an idea that you believe would help somebody, we want to hear about it. We're looking for ideas that help as many people as possible, in any way, and we're committing the funding to launch them. You can submit your ideas and help vote on ideas from others. Final idea selections will be made by an advisory board."

Google will donate a $10 million sponsorship to the top 5 ideas.
So what are you still doing here ?

Mozilla Firefox 0.9.1

`kronix:iconkronix: reports, June 29, 2004

Mozilla Firefox 0.9.1 is a swift, feature-rich web browser with excellent compliance for standards. Sporting popup blocking, tabbed browsing, an integrated Download manager, integrated Google search, support for themes and a host of other features, Firefox will revolutionise your browsing experience. This release introduces a new navigation menu icon set, puts right flaws in the Extension manager, and addresses a number of minor bugs.

The Extensions and Themes managers introduced in the 0.9 milestone allow you to effortlessly manage and add new extensions or themes to your Mozilla Firefox installation, or update existing packages. Extensions are small files which augment or introduce functionality to Mozilla Firefox. Popular extension categories include mouse gestures, downloading, tabbed browsing, search tools and navigation. Firefox also supports themes, which allow you to customise the browser's appearance. Lastly we have plug-ins, giving you the ability to view Flash, Java, Adobe PDFs, several media formats and ActiveX controls.

Available for Windows, Linux and OSX, Mozilla Firefox has established itself as the leading web browser amongst those "in the know", owing to its security, stability and mountain of features.

If you are told to upgrade to Firefox 0.9.1 when you are already at that version, follow these steps to stop the upgrade notifications:
1. Go to about:config
3. filter update.app
2. Right-click and reset each of these back to defaults: update.app.AppDescription, update.app.updateURL, update.app.Version, and update.app.UpdatesAvailable
3. Restart Firefox.
4:  ^neom

:bulletgreen: Why use Firefox?
:pointr: Popup Blocking: Stop annoying popup ads in their tracks with Firefox's built in popup blocker.
:pointr: Tabbed Browsing: View more than one web page in a single window with this time saving feature. Open links in the background so that they're ready for viewing when you're ready to read them.
:pointr: Smarter Search: Google Search is built right into the toolbar, and there are a plethora of other search tools including Keywords (type "dict " in the Location Bar), and FastFind (start typing the first few letters of some text in the page and Firefox takes you there).
:pointr: Privacy and Security: Built with your Security in mind, Firefox keeps your computer safe from malicious spyware by not loading harmful ActiveX controls. A comprehensive set of privacy tools keep your online activity your business.
:pointr: Hassle-Free Downloading: Files you download are automatically saved to your Desktop so they're easy to find. Fewer prompts mean files download quicker.
:pointr: Fits Like a Glove: Simple and intuitive, yet fully featured, Firefox has all the functions you're used to - Bookmarks, History, Full Screen, Text Zooming to make pages with small text easier to read, etc.
:pointr: S M L XL XXL XXXL: Firefox is the most customizable browser on the planet. Customize your toolbars to add additional buttons, install new Extensions that add new features, add new Themes to browse with style, and use the adaptive search system to allow you to search an infinite number of engines. Firefox is as big or small as you want.
:pointr: Setup's a Snap: At only 4.7MB (Windows), Firefox only takes minutes to download over a fast connection. The installer gets you set up quickly, and the new Easy Transition system imports all of your settings - Favorites, passwords and other data from Internet Explorer and other browsers - so you can start surfing right away.
:pointr: A Developer's Best Friend: Firefox comes with a standard set of developer tools including a powerful JavaScript and CSS error/warning console, and an optional Document Inspector that gives unheard of insight into how your pages work.

:bulletgreen: Changes in this version:
:pointr: Flaws in the extension system corrected
:pointr: New icon set for navigation menu (Windows and Linux)
:pointr: Many minor bugs addressed

To ensure you do not experience any problems when installing this software, read this portion of the release notes. Mozilla Firefox is a technology preview, and should not be used for mission-critical applications. This software is free to use, and open-source.

I don't know if it's the placebo effect or if they really did change the icons, but it seems to look a lot better than before. :p
