Here we have stream-of-consciousness on uppers. The brevity of this work and rapid-fire thinking process of the protagonist leaves the impression of building towards a sexual climax, one which ends in the drugged-up revelation that we put things inside of our bodies to get things out, such as thoughts, blood, and ejaculated semen. -- Recommended by ~

Reinventing

Reinventing is a hauntingly vivid glance into this author's world, a rhythmic and strangely elegiac piece that deals with the emotions of looking into the familiar with a new perspective. Having read enough coming-of-age memoirs to last me a lifetime, I found it incredibly refreshing to witness such an original take on the theme of the introspective. Here is an author who manages to be both stark and intimate in her portrayal of love, life and family from the inside of a car heading to Romania. -- Recommended by ~

"Sick Roses" Chapter One
by ~
Novadrome
The first chapter of ~
Novadromes
"Sick Roses" Chapter One begins with a deliciously jarring description of a city, quickly shifting focus to the smaller world of Roxy Hamilton. Filled with a decadent lyricism and playful experimentation, this story is also engaging, offering us a promising taste of things to come. -- Recommended by *

A Day Less Ordinary
by ~
sinopsis
A Day Less Ordinary, a tribute to late sci-fi humorist Douglas Adams, is a great example of how to give proper due to a subject without your story falling apart. With an original main character and a basic setting, ~
sinopsis is able to infuse classic references to Adams's stories without sacrificing all in the name of recognition. -- Recommended by ~

The Littlest President

This story had me grinning like a very happy lunatic. First off, its something you rarely see on DA: a good, funny political satire. Secondly, its incredibly easy to read, thanks to the straightforward style. Theres also a sad, serious edge to the piece which doesnt detract from the humour. -- Recommended by *

Wheel Country
by ~
epimetheus
~
epimetheus is able to, with brilliantly rich prose, tap into the isolation that dislocates him and use it as a construct in his portrayal of a road-weary vagabond in,
Wheel Country. He comments on bold topics such as artistic inspiration, the inevitable lurch into death/darkness and man's relationship with the bastard-children of light, fire and electricity. -- Recommended by ~
