In a surprising move, Adobe Systems announced a definitive agreement to acquire Macromedia in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $3.4 billion. Adobe is known for products such as Photoshop, Illustrator & Acrobat while Macromedia is known products such as Flash & Dreamweaver. The acquisition is expected to close in Fall 2005.
The acquisition of Macromedia by Adobe provide customers a more powerful set of integrated software solutions that enable them create, manage and deliver a wide range of compelling content and applications from documents and images to audio and video. This powerful combination also strengthens their mission to help people and organizations communicate better through the complementary industry-wide technologies of PDF and Flash. Together, the two companies will continue to innovate and expand into the mobile and enterprise markets.
