This person is someone some of you may be familiar with in recent months, promoting devWear, running the Holiday Card Project, campaigning to keep her favorite TV shows on the air and many other things. And the award goes to...

Patrick Roberts and Dragon*Con

$Waveswinger:iconWaveswinger: reports, May 4, 2005
Dragon*Con first launched in 1987 and has since grown to be North America's largest science fiction convention, held annually for four days in Atlanta, Georgia.
This one of a kind event features: Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, Comics, Art, Games, Computers, Animation, Science, Music, Television and Films, drawing people from all parts of the world to come and join in the fun.

Activities throughout the four days are widely varied: panels and classes, pro wrestling matches, comic book browsing, shopping, ballrooms equipped for 24 hours gaming and cos play. This event features a costume ball with many attendees dressing up in elaborate costumes, depicting every kind of character imaginable. Many join the Dragon*Con parade to compete for the coveted prizes in various categories of costume design.

The event is organized into 27 different specific categories called “tracks,” each it’s own convention of a particular interest. There’s something for everyone from gothic horror and independent films, to sci-fi role-playing and robotics. Celebrities from all aspects of the entertainment industry, the field of science, literature and music are among some of the favorites that attend, usually signing autographs, posing for photos, and talking about the projects that they’re involved in.

The Dragon*Con convention features its own Art Show each year, expertly directed by Scientist and Artist Patrick Roberts. Patrick’s direction of this event has brought it to National acclaim, by mixing the best and most creative works of art, in one place at one time; anime, science fiction, fantasy, horror, digital art and fractal art are a few of the styles to be seen. This show is so interactive that working artists are seen thru-out the event creating paintings of live nudes, welding, oil painting, sculptures and digital art. Dragon*Con has succeeded in bringing the artists into the spotlight and providing them the opportunity to exhibit their work to an audience of over 20,000.

Patrick Roberts will be joining us here for the deviantART Summit as a panelist discussing his role in Dragon*Con as well as teaching a class on Fractal Art – math in motion. We are also pleased to announce that deviantART will be participating in Dragon*Con 2005 on September 2nd to the 5th.

Tickets to the 2005 deviantART summit are limited!

Oh, that sounds cool! I'd love to go to Dragon*Con. I'd be a little out of my element but to be around so many people who love science fiction would be a hoot. I'm sure Patrick Roberts' class will be quite an experience. I'm jealous as all hell of those who get to go to The Summit. :sniff:
