`SparrowSong on writing, critique and her passions

^lovetodeviate:iconlovetodeviate: reports, September 28
An interview with writer, critic (critiquer?), lit senior, `SparrowSong. Here are some tidbits:

“I like that my passions change. If nothing else, it gives me more to write about.”

“Everyone has heard the expression, ‘Give a man a fish, he eats for a day; teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime.’ If you don’t learn to critique, you will always be dependent on others to help you instead of being able to do it by yourself.”

“Art changes how we view the surface of the world to reveal truth or beauty—or both—underneath.”

Australian Poets - Bruce Dawe Poetry Prize

`darkcrescendo:icondarkcrescendo: reports, May 10, 2005
Competitions: Australia
THE BRUCE DAWE NATIONAL POETRY PRIZE

This is a competition for Australian poets.

The following information is taken from the webpage at http://www.usq.edu.au/faculty/arts/dhis/bdnpp.htm

The Prize has been endowed by Bruce Dawe, one of Australia's best-loved and most widely read poets, as an annual $1,500 award to encourage poets throughout Australia. The endowment is held in trust by the University of Southern Queensland, Toowoomba, and administered by the Faculty of Arts. The prize is judged by the English Literature staff of the Faculty, chaired by Dr Chris Lee.

Bruce Dawe said the decision to endow the prize stemmed from a belief that all universities should encourage the practice of the arts within Australian society.

It is hoped that this prize will support poets and help recognise the important contribution they make to Australian culture.

The competition opens on 1st March and closes on 31st July each year.

2 The Prize will be awarded to an original, unpublished poem not exceeding 50 lines. There are no generic or thematic constraints.
