Keeping the Quality - Part 1

`achfoo:iconachfoo: reports, June 13, 2005

Keeping the quality

For a long time, paper prints were the sole focus for many artists on deviantART. The simple selection of print sizes provided a quick and easy way for artists to choose what fit for them. However, with the advent of new products comes a plethora of new choices. And with so many choices, some guidance is often helpful.

As an artist, you're probably looking for ways to maximize your reach and provide the best possible product. This article is just for you, then! Part 1 of this series starts with a few basic tips on creating a sellable product. Later on, we'll look into more of the decisions to be made when marketing your art.

Here are a few simple guides and ideas to keep your print product at maximum quality.

:bulletblue: It's quick and easy to just slap your image onto any number of products and aspect ratios, but it's probably not your smartest move.
:bulletblue: Create different image layouts for your different products.
:bulletblue: Mousepad have rounded edges. Keep that in mind when working with rectangular borders.
:bulletblue: Puzzles should be fun to solve. Creating thick, single color borders makes it frustrating and difficult.
:bulletblue: Mugs can be a tough product to fill for some. Consider duplicating your image across the mug or cropping it length-wise.
:bulletblue: When making a calendar, don't forget that the top of each page has a small hole for hanging with a nail. Don't put text in the very top center!
:bulletblue: "What is a bleed edge and how do I use it when preparing my artwork for printing?" Don't risk losing important parts of your image.

These are just a few simple suggestions for streamlining your products. Stay tuned to Print News for more in-depth articles on maximizing your experience. If you have any questions about "Keeping the Quality", feel free to ask here and I'll gladly respond. :)

for calenders, when does 2006 go onlines? and it seems I've heard conflicting info on the sizes, what is the correct page sizes?

Also, why is the size data for the magnets the same for both sizes. how could they both be the same basic size?

Calendar products flip over to the next year in September. So once September 2005 comes around, the calendars will be printed with 2006. The size of calendar pages is 8.5x11".

I'll get back to you on the magnet issue, though.

thanks.
so for the calender we would submit 12 months, a front cover and a back cover, right?
(i really am looking forward to having at least one for 06)
