IconPackager 3

`dinyctis:icondinyctis: reports, June 15, 2005
IconPackager 3 is a program that lets you change hundreds of icons for Windows.

While Windows offered the option to change icons for a long time, this program makes it easier to apply the icon packages that you can find here at deviantART, as well as other sites as well (such as WinCustomize and SkinBase).

IconPackager 3 differs from it's predecessors in that it can now support icons found in the new Service Pack 2 for Windows XP and for the new icons in the file dialog. Also worthy of mention is the "package builder" feature that lets you easily create icon packages.

I owned that program years ago. Did it always have free options? I seem to recall being forced to register in order to use the darn thing. Either way, free = good. :D

It's hardly free at all! With so many hassles to overcome, you'll either want to buy it or don't bother trying it. It's truly a frustrating experience when EVERYTHING you try to do is disabled. I'd get another free alternative if I had the choice.

Yeah, I see that. That can't have been how it always was; I never pay for anything I don't need to! Ah well, I'm on a new system now and it will be nice to play with some GANT icons again. :)

Ah, that's probably why I ended up buying it way back when. I can't stand "free" programs with hassles like that. Can you suggest any free alternatives?

Unfortunately, I don't recall their names at the moment. I know there is one that does read iconpackager files, though.

I lost the program when my last hard drive died.

What the heck are some of you talking about? What's disabled in the shareware version? It applies icon packages. There's no hassles on it and the enhanced version is $14.95 which gives you even more stuff.
