The Printing Press

lolly:iconlolly: reports, July 5, 2005

The Printing Press

What is The Printing Press you ask?
“oh no…here’s $lolly trying to sell us some more stuff again, look he’s even wearing his plaid used car salesman suit  “ is what you may be thinking. Or you may be thinking “Hmmm…..this is about prints, maybe it will help me out!”

Well, if the second one was your thought, you are correct!

The Printing Press is going to be a regular article going into the in and outs of the Print Department. Not necessarily a guide to specific functions as we have many of those coming out if you take a look at the resources section at the bottom of this article…but hey! Stop looking down there for a minute and look back here.

*ahem” As I was saying, we will be putting out articles to give those of you who have a print account, who buy prints or are possibly interested in both a more in depth grasp of what it is we do. So I will cease prattling on about what we hope to accomplish and simply begin accomplishing it.

Help Me!

Misconceptions. Erroneous information. Knocking on the wrong door. All those things can ruin your day.

The single biggest area in the Print Department that people seem to have trouble figuring out is how to get help when they need it.

We figured it best to start with this one, so here we go. Many people think there are many avenues to receive help in relation to your print account or your print order. The forums, the +helpdesk or even noting an admin. While these may end up giving you some answers, those answers may be ultimately wrong, and that’s bad news for all of us.

:bulletred: The forums are definitely full of helpful people who know what they are doing, but, if that helpful person answering your question is not one of the % bearing print staffers, that information has the potential to be wrong, and that just makes things get more complicated. Have you ever played the game where you line up 30 people, and tell the first person a phrase and have them pass it down to the next and so on and so on, and by the time it reaches the last person, the phrase barely resembles the original?
That’s the potential problem with the forums. Basic advice, sure. They are absolutely great for that. 100% staff guaranteed correct? No.

:bulletred: Noting an admin. While going straight to the top may seem like the most direct route, this can lead to several problems. The main one is, you may not be contacting an admin that works in our department. They then have to take the time to redirect you to the right place, and this will just slow things down for you, and you end up getting frustrated and losing faith in us, and that’s not something we want to have happen. Ever.
Also, an admin may not see your note right away, so again, that adds more time on to the problem.

:bulletred:The +helpdesk. Now, this may seem like the obvious place to go, but in reality, the Help Desk is for community related issues, and they will send you on to the right place, which will again take time.

Notice the recurring theme here? We don’t want anything slowing us down in helping you solve your problem. Now you are probably wondering, “okay, you told us where NOT to go, so where does that leave me?

:bulletred:Right here. The Prints Customer Service Desk. One simple place. No worries of it ever getting deleted as if it were a note. No hassle of being redirected 5 times by 5 different people. One little form and you will be answered promptly by $Josh, %fangedfem and %hexentanz

It really is just that easy! And in case you forget, that link can be found on the main page of The Print Shop.

Funky muffins - and I'd like to attest that the print customer service desk is VERY speedy with their responses. Good to have this sort of guide around as a reference, I suggest the link is noted and back-catalogued.

I'd very much appreciate if the prints management page (the main page with all the links) was more accessible. I just can't remember the URL, and always going via Services is slow and annoying. A toolbar button in dAprints would be brillo.
