I'm pleased to introduce myself as the new Gallery Director of Artisan Crafts andto give you a heads up on the changes being made to one of the most overlooked galleries on DA.

Artisan Crafts is a gallery for tangible artwork not of a drawn or computer generated nature. If it sounds a lot like arts n’ crafts, that is because it is very much like arts n’ crafts, but perhaps a bit more advanced than the cut and pasting you did in grade school. It is a place for custom clothing, hand carved wood statuettes, hand beaded jewelry, and intricately detailed stained glass, and much more. With so much developing in the computer generated market for art, it’s easy to forget the hands on thrill Artisan Crafts can bring you, but the artists within have not forgotten and labor upon it diligently.

With that out of the way, onto the new changes to Artisan crafts. We have new categories so it will be easier for you to find a proper home for your art, with updated gallery descriptions on all categories so there will be less confusion.

These new subcategories are here for growing art genres and so that you don’t feel your work is going to be lost in the Misc. category.

Please also note that Blacksmithing has been changed to Metal Work to encompass all metal Artisan Crafts and that Furnacework has been changed to Sculpture and Glass to encompass all things in the gallery that might not require a furnace.

And at long last, Textiles has its own subcategories!

If you are an Artisan Crafter, please take the time to go through your gallery and relocate them to the proper new categories if need be. Also, please remember when submitting to Artisan Crafts to read all the new and updated gallery descriptions to ensure you are placing them in the right category. If you are not sure, please let me know by note and I will work with you to find a good place for it.

As many of you notice, there is a lot of sorting going around. This is to ensure that everything is in its proper place. If something is moved and you feel that it was moved to a place that is improper for your work of art, please let me know by note.

While sifting through the gallery, please be sure to use the Report Policy Violation button if you see something you think may be in the wrong category or not in accordance to policy. This helps keep the galleries uncluttered and more focused on art.

Also, I remind you that licensed character artwork is not allowed in submitted art. This is a copyright violation and will be reported. Fan drawn artwork has its own category, and cosplay is allowed in costumes. If you use a screencap or character drawing that is copyrighted for comparison, it will be reported.

Remember not to submit work in progress, scanned notebook pages, sketches, and how-to pictures into Artisan Crafts. These belong in scraps and will be moved there unless you can prove they are otherwise. Please read the scraps gallery description to understand what is to be put in scraps and what is not. If you are afraid your scraps will not be seen, please tell your watchers to mark the 'scraps' box in their watch list so that they might receive them when they are submitted.
