Artists for Charity

`sanguru:iconsanguru: reports, November 2, 2005
*ArtistsForCharity is a new idea to grace the pages of deviantART. We, the seniors, have the pleasure of introducing this group to the community. This idea was first formed after the passing of `randomcasualty and *strivingtoexist, both from cancer. We desired to reach out and help in some fashion. From this, *ArtistsForCharity was born.

The goal of *ArtistsForCharity is to help charities by doing what we love, by creating art. This will be accomplished by seniors submitting art to be sold as prints with all the profits going to charity. In this sense, this project is unlike any other done so far here. We will not be asking for donations. Instead, we are selling art with the proceeds going to the charity. These prints will be exclusively donated for this group and will not be available anywhere else. In other words, you get to buy exclusive prints from some of the coolest artists around and all the money goes to charities. How cool is that?

As stated above, deviantART will be donating all profits. This means that the administration has graciously agreed to donate their portion of the profits as well. In addition, $lolly provided the account both a subscription and print account for free, and we are very thankful for that. Without the support of staff of deviantART getting this project underway would have been impossible.

The *ArtistsForCharity account will be run by seniors, but other deviants will be asked to participate. If you are a senior and would like to participate, note `insaneone or `nighty. For all the seniors who are in for this project, start making artwork! We're ready to make a difference. If you aren’t a senior, the best way you can help us is by telling others and then buying prints when the project is fully functional

The following seniors are currently involved with starting the project.

`insaneone
`nighty
`sanguru
`Ghouldaddy
`bigdavec

The charity to be donated to has not been chosen yet. It will be chosen by senior vote. The following are under consideration:

:bulletgreen: unicef
:bulletgreen: Artistshelpingchildren
:bulletgreen: American Cancer Society
:bulletgreen: Habitat for Humanity
:bulletgreen: International Red Cross

While this group has made a big effort in getting this group started, and several big hurdles have been covered, there is still a lot of work to happen before *ArtistsForCharity is fully up and running. We are working as quickly as possible to get it underway. Keep your eyes open for later news releases on the states up this new group. We anticipate it being fully functional in a few weeks.

Questions can be addressed here, or you can note `insaneone or `nighty with any regarding this new group. Also, feel free to stop by #artistsforcharity, and we will try to help answer your questions there.

This is a very interesting thing to hear about. I think it's great, but if I'd becare with the UNICEF one, only because many pro-life people have been told not to donate to the group because of some issues. I currently don't have my emails about it, but I thought I'd inform you on that one.

On another note, I'm glad to see Habitat for Humanity is on the list. At my school we're currently building a home from one of the girls in our school (who's in a wheelchair) through Habitat for Humanity. This house will be wheelchair accessible, she'll have her own room (so she can slam the door when she's upset, something she can not do now) as well as help do the dishes (somethign else she currently can not help with, but wants to.) I can't wait to see where this project will go.

You guys already know you have my support and upmost respect for what is being done here. It's truly amazing. I feel so fortunate to be able to be a part of something like this! Here's hoping I get over this art block soon so I can get something together to donate. :blowkiss:

Much love to `randomcasualty and *strivingtoexist. Both were incredible people. They are the kinds of deviants that hold this community together.

Good. This is the sort of thing art communities should be busying themsleves with. I like the idea of exclusive prints being available only through this venue.

I cant help but wonder how financial accountabilty is being handled (in this group as well as the one handing out subscriptions). Not implying any impropriety, but these things have to be addressed.
