`SparrowSong on writing, critique and her passions

^lovetodeviate:iconlovetodeviate: reports, September 28
An interview with writer, critic (critiquer?), lit senior, `SparrowSong. Here are some tidbits:

“I like that my passions change. If nothing else, it gives me more to write about.”

“Everyone has heard the expression, ‘Give a man a fish, he eats for a day; teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime.’ If you don’t learn to critique, you will always be dependent on others to help you instead of being able to do it by yourself.”

“Art changes how we view the surface of the world to reveal truth or beauty—or both—underneath.”

Urban Legend Contest

Urban Legend Contest
After the successful SUPERHERO competition comes another contest from the people of the ~treehousesociety. Following the tradition of scary storytelling in treehouse gatherings worldwide, the TreeHouse Society is having its first ever URBAN LEGEND SERIES CONTEST. The aim of this project is to gather as many original URBAN LEGENDs from dA members as possible. From the submitted entries, top ten favourites will be selected and will be published in the Treehouse's first journal hopefully by the end of the year.

Submitted entries may either be in the form of poetry, prose or even a simple drawing or photography. For entries submitted as a photo or a drawing, a brief explanatory description or storyline. Entries submitted as prose or poetry may have an appropriate preview picture but judging will be done on the entry itself and not on the preview picture.

A participant can send multple entries. To qualify, interested participants need only send the TreeHouse a note entitled URBAN LEGENDS containing the link to the said entry. Entries will be accepted only until December 8, 2005 GMT +8 (Manila, Singapore, KL, Beijing).

A talented group of judges (who are not necessarily members of the treehouse) will be selected by the end of November and will be given the opportunity to critique and select from among the conest entries their top favourites. The top three entries will also be declared from among the favourites.

The URBAN LEGEND Contest is not merely a contest for writing the best Scary Story. Entries must qualify as an URBAN LEGEND which is defined as "a kind of folklore consisting of stories often thought to be factual by those circulating them. Urban legends are not necessarily untrue, but they are often false, distorted, exaggerated, or sensationalized. Despite the name, urban legends do not necessarily take place in an urban setting. The name is designed to differentiate them from traditional folklore created in preindustrial times." (definition taken from Wikipedia).

Remember: Your submitted Urban Legend has to be ORIGINAL and SCARY.

Interested dA are invited to visit the TreeHouse site and browse over the contest details or contact ~bayen for any clarifications.

Let the scaring begin!
