The VBU and Artist Relations would like to officially announce Project 8: Abstracts. This project is running exactly one month and one day after this news post, so get ready to get your vector application of choice in action.

Project 8 will focus exclusively on abstract art, a category of vector art that has literally limitless potential. The rules are simple: make a vector that expresses yourself. Go crazy. Make it however you want. However, because it is the holiday season, we would love to see your take on it: whatever your culture celebrates, we want to see it; if you want to incorporate the New Year, have at it. Yet, you are still free to do whatever subject of abstract art that you please even if it is not as festive.

There are not any complex requirements for the project; it just has to be a vector, it has to be abstract or a least have an abstract feel (we’ll let you be the judge of that), and it has to be a work that has not been previously submitted. If you are not familiar with the *vbu or vector art, stop by and check out VBU journal for links to tutorials – you could be vectoring within minutes.

To join the project, just submit your artwork to the Contests > VBU Project 8 section on deviantART. You do not even have to be a member of the VBU to enter: we want everybody to have a hassle free experience; simply submit your piece, and upon reviewing it, we will automatically add you to the list of members. It’s just that simple.

Judging this competition will be the entire Vector Brothers Unite staff: ^object2bdestroyd, `lemontea, *6665, =thiefoftime, =crazychild, and *kasumichan2003. Winners will be announced shortly after the project is completed and 15 selected entries will appear in a flash animation deviation on the VBU page.
