Q How long have you been working in Digital Art?
I`ve been working now almost for seven years, but I`m feeling like I`m still on the beginning. I think that the best from me is still somewhere in the future. I started with collecting aviation pictures. I always liked planes & flying stuff. Then I started to draw planes and cars - first in vectors. That`s how I get here where I am.
QWhat did you do before you got your start working digitally?
Well, when I was a kid, I liked to draw cars and planes, and I loved scale moddelling (in fact, I`m still doing some scale modeling). When my father bought me my first computer I fall in Love with Corel 5. Vectors was the first thing I saw on modern PC computers. That`s why I prefer vector art. First love you can`t forget. Bitmap graphic I started to use much later. My first bitmap program was Corel PhotoPaint, but later I noticed that Adobe PhotoShop is much better. At that time I went in Bussines High School, and I did not even dreamed that my job would be graphic design & stuff. Today, I`m student at Faculty of Graphics Arts in Zagreb, And I have year and the half till the end.
Q You have many different types of work in your gallery, paintings, drawings and vector, is there one that you enjoy more than the others?
Vectors, they are my favourite. Vectors was the firs thing that I encoutered in world of Graphic Design. Bitmap graphic - Thing is, I`m not so talented drawer, and my works probably are not drawings and paintings... They are all products of techical capabilities of programs that I use. Talent is not so much important.
Q What person on deviantART has had the most impact and/or influence on your work?
Uff, that is very hard to answer. There are many really great artists here on DA, but I must say - people that I admire (and they works) are not my type at all. For example - fairy tails and similar "lord of the rings type" stories are really not something that I like, but people like sundang or enayla are my favorite type of artists here on DA. Probably because they are making stuff that I will never do - and what is most important - they are doing it well. Others - I like `
dangeruss because of his unique 3D moddeling, ~
yankeedog because of his really nice "retro" style, and I like those *
ANTIFAN-REAL and $
liquisoft guys, but there are many others. In fact, my whole deviant watch is the people with some really amazing works... And there is one more person. The guy that I study with. He is very talented drawer, but he is not so "technicaly" good - he is still learning, but is already very good artist. Hes nick here is ~
skam4, and his real name is Maksimilijan. Sometimes he help me in my work because he is really better drawer then myself. Thanx Max.
Q Why/how have they impacted your work?
They influence was no so much because of their style or technique, It`s just the thing that when man see their work, it must give the best of himself to make his work better and better... just to try reach the perfection. I know it`s impossible, but I`ll try to get realy close. As close as possible.
Q Were there any key inspirations or individuals that had a great impact on you when you first started digital art?
Well, I must say - NO. Nobody arround me never had computer, and I did not have Internet at that time, so my firs steps was really mine. It was just random cliks with my mose. Later I get the really nice book from Bojan Kondres about Corel 5. That is how I started with Digital Art. Deviant Art was my first Art community where I meet some great artists.
Q What do you feel is the most common misconception about what you do?
I hate when people thinks that Graphic Design is just playing on the computer. Some people just can`t imagine that this is really serious and very harworking job. Other thing is deadlines. I hate short deadlines. People thinks that I need about 30-60 min to finish my work. You can`t give the man 24hrs deadline. It`s just too short.
Q What has been your greatest challenge challenge in digital art? Be it an image, program or a concept.
The greatest cahallenge was the images for the Croatian KLIK popular magazine. It`s always 3 or 4 days deadline for everything. The idea, concept and final illustration. It`s not so easy thing for me. I had always thought - impossible, but I always did my job on time... I hate that pressure.
Q What do you see yourself doing, art wise, in two years?
I will try to finish my faculty ASAP, and then start to work. The problem is that Croatia is very small market with only 4.5 mil. people. That is the reason that you cant live only with one thing. You have to do everything. Probably it will be like it always is. I`ll do everything - from catalogs, flyers, covers, digtal art, web`s (that I hate). You can`t choose, you must take it all. But nevermind I`m enjoying it. (or at least I`ll try to)
Q Any tips, encouragement or warnings for up-and-coming artists?
Try not to give up. Take your time to learn. You could achive anything. Talent is only 10%... other is only hard work. If you really want somethig, nobody can stop you to achieve that.
