Drench is a new brand of bottled water. The people behind Drench water are keen to encourage artistic awareness in young people, and so they came up with the Drench Art Award. They've been organising various promotional events across the UK where one can come and drink some cool water whilst seeing some top graffiti artists displaying their talents. There's only one left, which is this coming weekend (29th & 30th April) at the Truman Brewery, Brick Lane, London. The nearest Tube station is Aldgate East.
The competition itself is all about living in urban spaces and your individual creativity. Entrants should remember some key points:
- Express how you 'flow your own way' in an urban environment.
- Include a line or representation of a flowing continuum: this must be part of the work. They have examples of what this means on the website.
- The line should be coloured white, red, blue and black and/or mixes derived from these colours.
- You can enter any art form, except animation.
- Your entry should be no larger than 1m x 1m x 1m.
- Any entries that are of a violent, sexual or offensive nature or contain expletives/inappropriate gestures will be disregarded.
The deadline for entries is 5pm on June 9th, and they can either be posted to
Drench Art Prize, c/o Inferno Limited, Palladium House, 1-4 Argyll Street, London, W1F 7TA,
or submitted online where you can also view the online gallery.
Entries will be judged by a panel of five judges made up of artists, publicists and leading figures in the advertising industry. The panel will choose 24 finalists. There will also be an online poll taken and the entrant with the most votes will also be put through to the final. Out of this 25, one overall winner will be chosen by the judges.
So what can you win?
- All 25 finalists will be invited to a private view event of their work in the Proud Gallery, Camden, London. Attendees at the event will include finalists, art and national press and key people from the artistic world.
- Your work will then be showcased in the gallery for 3 days, from 21-23 July. The gallery and exhibition will be open to anyone.
- The winner of the Drench Art Award will receive creative representation from PIMP (a leading art collective) for 1 year plus a signed creative advertising print.
- The online winner with the most votes wins an automatic place in the final and a signed creative advertising print.

OMG! My fans are stampeding!
one thing people do need to know that's not mentioned here is that this competition is only open to people aged 18-30. shame - the rest of us will just have to wait for a zimmer frame decorating contest or something .....

Ask not what you can do for art, but what art can do for you.

But yes, I suppose it is unfortunate that the cut-off point is so low. I suppose it's aimed at helping emerging artists and they thought that there was enough for you older folk already.
Zimmer frame decorating contest isn't such a bad idea though.
