Overlooked Traditional Art - Make-Up

=darkstormlord:icondarkstormlord: reports, May 23, 2006
This series of articles, Overlooked Traditional Art, is intended to feature some of the best, new submissions from different subcategories in the Traditional Art Gallery.

This time, the focus will be on another small gallery on deviantART, Body Art > Make-Up.

Make-Up is an old art form, primary used to enhance the beauty of the human body, helping people to hide their defects and thus to look better.

Make-Up has been a very controversial subject over time, being forbidden or restricted in the medieval period and viewed as something vulgar and impolite that was worn by actors and prostitutes. Nowadays it became widely spread, being worn specially by women, but not only.

Make-up has evolved a lot from the ancient Roman and Egyptian cosmetics, based on mercury and lead, and the Japanese ones, based on plants and bintsuke wax that the geishas used, to the well known lotions, powder, lipsticks, mascara etc used today.

Its applications began to be more diverse too, being used both as a casual daily wear and also to create special effects, like wounds, or to give life to fantastic characters in movies using latex masks. Considering this we can say that make-up has become a necessity nowadays, being a powerful tool that allows us to get the looks that we want.

The above make-up works have less than 10 comments and less than 10 favs at the time the article was written. Try to give the artists the recognition they deserve, because what they need is not simply exposure but also critique and advice.

Very nice! I have one attempt at body art in my gallery but nothing like this!

It's amazing that these have been overlooked, but maybe not that amazing considering the fact that I have been a deviant since last September and have only 91 pageviews altogether. Some of my work has never been viewed at all, so I'm desparate for feedback as well.
