One of the most prestigious and richest prizes in poetry, The Griffin Poetry Prize, was awarded last Thursday night at a Shangri-La themed Gala. The event was hosted by Scott Griffin, founder of the prize, and had more than 400 guests attend including former Govenor General, Adrienne Clarkson, poets, publishers and literary figures.
The prize consists of $100 000 (CAN), which is then divided by the two winners, $50 000 (CAN) each and is awarded for a single volume of poetry.
441 works were submitted for the prize and judged by poets Lavinia Greenlaw (UK), Lisa Robertson (CAN) and Eliot Weinberger (USA).
