It's high time you got to know the mysterious section called "Macabre & Horror," as well as discover some unknown artists. When I say "unknown artists", I really mean unknown artists.
The term "macabre & horror" may stir up a few thoughts. You may think it's all blood & guts, though it does contain a lot of that, Macabre & Horror can be a lot deeper than that. It can also be quite varied, very emotional, and even quite romantic. Today, I bring you some selections of some wonderful pieces, from people you may not have even heard of, that show you what Macabre & Horror is all about. Each artist has their own style, their own messages, their own story, and their own skills. Take time to
really look at these picks. Examine the images thoroughly. Think about them. What sort of message are the messages conveying to you? What sort of emotion do the images have in them? Pain & destruction? Sorrow? What kind of story do they tell you? The ultimate question to Macabre & Horror images...why?
With each image I`ve selected, I also include my own little description, displaying why these particular images were chosen.
Digital Macabre & Horror
This will be a semi-common style in the digital Macabre & Horror genre. The grundge, the spikes, a strange creature you have never seen before. Showing artistic talent, with a style that is not seen in any other category, this also conveys the artist`s own personal emotion, with a bit of twisted humour. If you`re looking at it, and can`t see the twisted humour, look harder.
To display one style of Macabre & Horror, we have this piece. The artist shows great deal of talent; adding blood splatters, the anatomical work on the characters, the details put into the characters & the paper bag look. Even if it doesn't make perfect sense to you as to "why," you cannot help but admire the artist`s talent.
There are so many things I liked about this image. The grafitti & grundge in the background were so well done, especially the colour choice. A typical person may look at it & say "Oh my god, that`s terrible! He`s shooting himself!" But I look at it & say "How artistically beautiful...& you're not afraid to get your frustration out on paper, that`s healthy. Bottling up your emotions or unleashing it out on a person is bad."
Those of you who are familiar with Macabre & Horror may be familiar with this style. It's a sketchy, grundgy style, very dark. Artists of Macabre & Horror are common for this, creating images that portray their own personal emotion. Macabre & Horror artists are not "emo", they just aren't afraid to show the more negative emotions that society tends to push away.
Macabre & Horror has plenty of imagination. They also "put a twist" on things, hehe.
Transformations. It's rare to see transformations done halfway in images. This artist shows great technique & knowledge in showing transformation from human to demon. Just look at all the details they have done with the head.
The artist speaks for themself, more or less, as to why this image has been selected. You should really read the image's description to see why. All I shall say is that it has a wonderful story to it; a key element to Macabre & Horror art.
This is a piece I always felt looks good for a print. Alas, prints are not available. However, that is not why this has been selected. It's selected because it shows a sense of sorrow. The character's posture, coupled with the rain with the darkness & mist seem to always show some sort of sorrow, or deep thought. You choose which.

Romance may be darker but there's still romance in the realm of Macabre & Horror. This tends to be be my favourite sort of thing; dark romance between two people. Yes, they do love each other very much so. That's all that matters.
Traditional Macabre & Horror

A universal concept. Each one of us may look fine on the outside, even considered normal. But we all have some sort of demon inside of us, tormenting us in some form or another. Another element of Macabre & Horror; the artists see the truth about people as a whole & are not afraid to admit to it.
Your first thought upon this may be "His head is way too big for his body." Yes that is true but you are missing the point of the art. Look beyond the artist's talent, what is it the artist is telling you? In this case, twisted humour, one of the very best you'll find floating around. Read the artist's description. Who says Macabre & Horror is all about sadness? It can be quite humourous.
I love this. Who doesnt love dogs? This portrays werewolves in a way that I think is much better than the 60's hollywood werewolf. This is a true werewolf, in all of it's glory. Those eyes piercing into you. Is he going to hunt you? Or does he just want to play? A single image can stir up several different perspectives on it of what is going on. A nice little trick to this genre of art.
The text may be added on digitally, but this is still mainly traditional. Take a close look at it. The lighting coming down was just beautiful to look at. Yes, Macabre & Horror has ugly bodies in it, such as this one does. But at the same time it's beautiful. Just because someone doesn't have the perfect body, or what the ideal body is to you, doesn't mean that it still can't be beautiful, or liked. Look past what is ugly, there is always something beautiful in it.
I love this piece so much. I tend to fall for the humanoid demon types. This is the sort of detail you expect from a digital artist. But no, this is water colour & ink. All of it. A great deal of talent I wish I had for even the digital art I do. The best detail on this is the body tissue & muscle, that gets ripped through because of the spikes. Another example of the artist getting their emotion down on paper.
Don`t worry, be happy! What do you think is the artist's attitude towards that common statement?
Photography/Photomanipulation Macabre & Horror
Even in photographs, Macabre & Horror retains it's elements. Another common element to Macabre & Horror, are those alluring eyes. They pierce into your soul, but you cannot look away. You are drawn to those eyes...
This was too beautiful of an image to not want to pass it up. A beautiful dedication to romance. Have you ever loved someone so much that you were willing to die for them?
You may look at this & think, "Where is the love this artist speaks of?" Well, you will have to dig deeper into it. The image coupled with the title & a bit of the artist's description, all come together & say "Love has consequences. Love has a dark side." For every good thing comes the bad.
So what is "Macabre & Horror"? Wrapped up, "Macabre & Horror" is a lot of things, not just one. It is different from the mainstream. It has many concepts, ideas, & people that you may never find out unless you explore the genre.
