Artists need to be supported.
So don't be shy!

A better way to organize deviations?

*Orioto:iconOrioto: reports, May 7
The actual way of organizing content is somewhat not perfect, cause it links two things that should be independant : genre and tech of an image.

Interface Me Contest

*designerscouch:icondesignerscouch: reports, Jun 23, 2006
Contest Description
Long have there been talks of a website for Designers' Couch; a site to create our own identity, a site where we can communicate and help each other.

Well, members of DC and dA, here is the opportunity for you to help in creating the identity and a common place of dwelling for all designers alike. We've put together a contest whereby you'll create DC's online presence. You'll create the logo and the web interface and even our ad banners.

When we talked of a web interface for DC, there were so many suggestions on the content, the structure, etc that we couldn't decide on what to do. So what we've decided to do is have you, the members, come up with the content and content-structure for the design. You'll be judged on the quality of content you propose for DC's website as well as how it interfaces with the viewer and of course, creativity in design.

We're not limiting you in terms of creativity, but we suggest that colours such as blue and red be included in a minimal way but hey, BREAK THE RULES, we don't care. How you use colours will determine whether it can be the chosen design or not.

The judges for this contest are:
°liquisoft
^bornghost
=duhcoolies
=depthskins

Talks for more judges are in progress with:
Sone-pl

Selection Method
Each judge will make a decision based upon their own criteria. However, we'll allow the rest of the community to have a say in the decision, as well.

Stage 1
Each judge will select their top 10 designs; these designs will be cross-referenced with the other judges and designs chosen more than once will be added to the FINAL top 10 listing.

Stage 2
After this process is completed, the 10 designs will be posted in the poll and the Top 5 designs will be chosen by you the members.

Stage 3
Then, we'll go back to the judges for final say, at which time they'll select the top 4 designs using the same method in stage 1. The 1st place design will be chosen to be the DC web interface.

Prizes
You’re probably wondering what’s up for grabs. Well, the prizes are:

1st Place - 1 Weight of Fonce Sans Pro (FSP) + 9 mths Subscription
2nd Pace - deviantART Merchandise of your choice + 3mths Subscription
3rd Place - 12 months subscription
4th Place - 6 months subscription

We can assure you that whichever design wins will be suggested for daily deviation, a bonus reward which means more to someo f you. All these prizes are simply motivation for every designer to put their best foot forward. Give the designs as much creative juice as you can and you’ll be rewarded.

The contest runs for a period of 1 month starting from today. This allows you enough time to work on the design and enough that the contest wouldn’t be forgotten and eventually ignored.

How to submit?
Simply send a note to DC titled 'interface me submission'. Please note that you must be a member of *designerscouch to enter this contest (however, joining isn't hard at all).

Contest ENDS: July 23rd, 2006

Sponsors: °liquisoft, ^bornghost, =duhcoolies, =ipholio, =depthskins

Disclaimer
By taking part in this contest and accepting prizes you agree that designers' couch has exclusive ownership over the design and it's source files should it be chosen as the final four. You can in no way re-use this design or sell it elsewhere. You are allowed to display it in your gallery on dA and your personal portfolio.

Good Luck!

Truth be told, those prizes are not great enough for all the work involved. Yes, for some it may be fun and a learning experience, but this is real work, and experienced users may not spend their time with it. It looks like Designer's Couch is just using the cheap method of hosting a contest instead of hiring someone to do the job properly.

I have to agree with you on this one.

I assume this was just posted, otherwise there would be more comments. :p This should turn out to be a good contest, although with the prizes, yes, I agree they're a little out of order and for the work, maybe just a grand prize winner and cash prize would fit best. But that's not how it was gonna work out...which is why I pushed for more subscriptions to be added for first place, and include all three weights of Fonce Sans for the winner. I could never figure out why all three weren't included...not like anyone is going to lose any money over that. ;)

Other than that I look forward to how this will all turn out.

hiring someone? Did you even check the club? it's made up of a bunch of designers. Why would it be a cheap method? We'd be a hoax if we don't give out members a chance to see what they can do, wouldn't it?

I'm sorry everyone can't toss in a few ipods for prizes.

Yea, Ryan wasn't too happy about all 3 weights :P. I mean one weight cost $32, image all 3. I'm not saying anything because if I'm pleased with the participation, my contribution could be more. hehehe.

Unless the site he sells it on owns all rights to the font, then it wouldn't cost him a dime to donate all three weights. That's why I couldn't really understand that.

ahhh...i know but his stand point is that he put alot of work into for the intention to sell it. So giving a way is a loss for him nonetheless. Remember time = money. Maybe that's his view, but hey, his font, I simply asked if he could donate some which is better than nothing. Pity an ipod couldn't be tossed in, then heads would be turning now, wouldn't it. lol.

Alright buddy. Sure go ahead, let all those 'designers' and members do a job for nothing. I really don't care because I'm not going to waste my time with it.

"1 Weight of Fonce Sans Pro (FSP) + 9 mths Subscription"
The 9 mnth subsciption is worth about 10 bucks, and the font pack, which is really nothing special is 35. I don't know if you fairly pay people for their work, but a website layout is worth a lot more than 45 dollars. And the 'contest' setup is only a way to mask out the expenses that a normal website layout would cost.

If you don't agree with me than fine. I'm not going to debate you. I'm not going to sit here and debate. To be honest with you I was under the impression 'Designer's Couch' was a company. But none the less, I am just sick and tired of people not receiving what they earned.
