What is this contest about?


Basically: Manipulate a photograph taken by yourself.

It is about the fusion of photography and photomanipulation. Many digital artists use stock pictures for their works, and many photographers don't alter their pictures except for little touch-ups. I want to see deviants who bring both together and manipulate their own photographic works.

Why am I doing this?


I think that photographers who manipulate their own works have a hard stand here on dA. If they submit their works into the photography section, people will rant about them because they edited their photography in an obvious way. if they submit it into the Digital Art category, their works will go under among all the stock manipulations. Nothing against stock, but they put a lot of effort into taking the pictures themselves that won't be credited there. So this is why I want to give a bit of exposure to this special kind of art! Maybe some day it'll get it's own section

Rules:


The contest starts today and ends on August 23rd.

The entry has to be a photomanipulation whose main feature is a picture you took yourself. So you are the photographer and the digital artist in one person. You can put your original photo in your gallery, scraps section or stocks to show it along with your artwork. Additional stocks and textures are allowed.

It has to be manipulated to a significant extent. Darkroom edits are not enough! Don't just play with the colours.

If you want to make the judges' lives easier, state what you've done with the picture. Sometimes it's hard to tell if it's only darkroom or not. Besides, it's interesting to hear how you deal with your pictures

Stick to the dA rules.

The judges will choose the six best entries. The entries will be judged by professionality, originality, aesthetics and overall impression.

The first place will be chosen by me. Out of the six best ones the second and third places will be chosen via open poll. There may be honorable mentions chosen by the judges.

The rules may be changed later on, so keep an eye on this journal!

How to submit



To submit your entry, write me a note with a link to your deviation and "ManipPhoto Contest" in the subject line.

The deviations don't have to be new, older ones are ok too. Just state in your description that you are taking part in this contest.

Up to two entries per person.

All entries will be shown in my shoutboard during the whole contest, along with the names of the artists.
