After looking at a lot of the recent announcements, and the big hot topic issue yesterday, I really think this whole news issue needs to be addressed.
$
lolly stated in his
News Article that, it is up to us, the community, to give deviantART its reputation. Think of all the news members coming in, outside sources, and professional artists. If they see all of this shameless self promotion and other crap, they would not want to be a member of this art site. We do not want them to get the wrong opinion
What can we, the community, do?
We can flush out all of those crappy articles with good ones. We need to write articles that have a meaning, that showcase talent,
actual news. Unless this issue gets fixed with moderators, we need to start the
news revoultion. All deviant's can participate in this, all you have to do is write an news article that could actually be classified as
news, not something you would post in yout journal or fourm. So go out, and write something that features artsists, or write about something BIG that is happening in the art world (no this does
not mean DA's new layout!!!!).
And to start this off, I have a collection of thumbs to show. Talent. Actual talent, no shameless self-promotion, just works that
I like, and I hope that you like them, too.
So what are you going to do today?
A. Sit around and complain about the useless news?
or
B. Get up, and write a helpful news article with either thumbs, information that can help us all, or even start a contest!
Join the news revolution.
It is your choice.

Lolly said that as well and my response is the same. I don't have a head full of news about the art world nor money enough to get a good contest going with good prizes but that shouldn't mean having to wade through a sea of absolute crap. There's no way I can post an interesting news article for every bit of spam that gets thrown up in the news section. All I can do is choose option A because, right now, the news isn't working, in my opinion. It's just an extension of the forum. People saying 'look at my art', 'I don't like the new dA' and rubbish like that. I could trawl through journals and the forum for that. I'd rather see the news section moderated so that what gets shown is actually news.
