Help & FAQ

Is it News, or not?

~Soul-Daemon:iconSoul-Daemon: reports, August 15, 2006
I have seen so many non-news articles being posted here, however this is not what has infuriated me somewhat as you'd might think.

What bothers me is that so many Deviants keep replying with repeated posts complaining that it isnt news, and that dA should do something.

Stop and think; what are you doing by gracing it with a stream of replys?

These boards are now in our hands to mod, if something isn't news don't respond by flameing the article as it is this which keeps such posts active.

What many of you may not know yet, if an article is just rubbish spam or should be on the forums, simply return to the main news page and click on the (rather obscurely named) 'UH-OH' LINK under the articles title and select the correct selection.

I assume that once enough people have done this the article will be dropped from the news page.

If any dA staff want to make it any clearer how the new system is supposed to work, please do!

Lets reclaim the News board for its intended purpose.

(also ive seen alot of 'job' type advertisments, now although a few people might find this intresting I for one dont think such articles belong as News but rather in the jobs board on the forums.)

uh-oh feature is worthless atm ;)

Although it is nice to vent and click it; it doesn't do a thing yet.

but you have some good points and it really ticks me off to see all the replies saying this isn't news... one person saying it is enough.

doesnt it? i thought i saw the popularity ratings go down, when ya uh-oh it, and it goes up when ya click the love it button? does it really not work yet??

I post on some of these because I would like to educate and inform the people who post non-news stuff so they know why it isn't news. Then maybe they'll stop posting it. Merely whining about it--either with replies or "uh-oh" clicks--won't really stop it from happening again and again. Calmly letting people know why it isn't news helps them to understand why they shouldn't do it and hopefully keeps at least a portion of them from doing it again.

People have to keep replying because certain people can't seem to get the message. You're not helping.

true i don't surgest people should not inform them politely, just try not to spam the articles with screams of this aint news! you could always inform them thru their gallery or by note, more likely to pay attention to a polite note aswell, i would have thought.

fair enough, we each must do what we feel is neccesary. and in some cases perhaps it is the right thing.
alot of the time tho i suspect things would run smoother if people let such articles fade into obscurity.

:highfive: ironically its arguable wether this is a news worthy article itself, i did question posting it at all.
but ime glad to see atleast some people agree.

still ime gonna continue using the uh-oh system and hope they get it fully opperating soon.
