Free V6 Help

^Ikue:iconIkue: reports, July 11
Okay so if you haven't noticed V6 was launched late last night/early morning (depending on your time zone) to mixed reviews.

We as admins have had a little more time with it than the rest of the masses and as such I thought I would volunteer my knowledge with whomever is interested. Rather than complain that everything is different perhaps I can help show you how much more user friendly and easier the site is to navigate.

So... if you have a question concerning V6 please ask it. If you know of someone who is having troubles, please link them here. I will be updating this journal with your questions and hopefully answers to said questions.

Proper Feedback, Necessary for the Community

`statichavoc:iconstatichavoc: reports, August 17, 2006
What makes good feedback/criticism

1. Be short and to the point but not overly simple
2. Pull out key elements of the piece and tell how they impact you (negatively or positively)
3. Suggest improvements, don't be all-knowing
4. Write WHY you wanted to comment on the piece

Answer the questions:
Why do I like/dislike this piece?
What made me click on the thumbnail?
What do I like most about this piece?
What do I dislike most about this piece?
What could make this better?
How did the piece make you feel or react?

Are short blurbs about how cool a deviation is worth reading?
Yes and No. It does have some small value to the one receiving the comment because it (barely) assures them that they are doing work that people like. I believe a simple "+fav" (and actually faving a work) is more beneficial than "dudzors this is soooo cool"... because the later doesn't offer any insight as to why the person thought it was cool. Whereas, just faving a piece speaks to the concerned deviant that the viewer like the piece enough to leave a brief comment and add it to their bank of "these pieces spoke to me" (favorites). Either way it's up to the viewer as to what type of comment to leave. But remember, you can't expect one thing and dish out another---be mindful when you leave your own comments as well.

Writing too many comments that lack substance and variety quickly show that you aren't serious about art and the community, but you also have the right to do what you want-but I and many others won't feel compelled to click on your gallery if you leave "cool!" or "you rock".

I'm just sayin'

:) I'm trying to get back into the mode of being a contributing member of dA society. I pride myself on (most) of the comments I leave for people - sans user comments (those are for fun hehe). I hope people take a minute to step back and understand the whole purpose of the comment system in relation to this dynamic art site.

That's true, about people butter understanding. I think there are a lot of helpful people out there that don't get noticed. So, maybe this will broaden the range of people knowing how to give good comments and give back to the community. :)

Thats a nice artical. Though i think the "+fav" comments are pretty annoying myself. I'd rather them just do it, I dont need to be informed twice about something. Either way im still going to wonder why.
If someone said it was cool and faved it, at least I'd know they faved it because they thought it was cool.
Instead of wondering if it was the character they liked or wether they thought the work was nice.

agreed, it does become tedious when people say +fav and you get 2 notifications 1 saying they faved it and the comment saying they faved it. My point was that at least the +fav served somewhat of a purpose vs. "cool" etc.

Either way, at the bare minimum, most people post deviations hoping people fav their work, or at the very least comment and say they liked it. Seldom actually expect useful criticism, and when people get it (good or bad) they tend to take it into consideration on their next piece, or decide to revise their current piece... or extreme cases where people go on flame wars cuz noone like their furry.

I guess I just dont really put any value in a fav, mainly because most times the persons faved so much other stuff in the meantime that it doesnt really say that your work is good, your work is 999 in a 100 more. I find it's rare that I go to the page and actually see my work still in their recent favorites.
I would rather someone tell me they like it.
Im one of the people who came here for critiques, I have no interests in favs. I mean, it's nice and all but they dont do anything unless people start being a little more selective and your stuff gets a chance to be showcased.

I like getting the critques and making the changes to see how much better I can make something I thought was good before.
Thats very rewarding.

Needed saying in my view, nice article. I always try to leave a comment explaining why I like the piece and what I think is good about it, sometimes I could be better I know but I suppose it's the thought that counts.
