`SparrowSong on writing, critique and her passions

^lovetodeviate:iconlovetodeviate: reports, September 28
An interview with writer, critic (critiquer?), lit senior, `SparrowSong. Here are some tidbits:

“I like that my passions change. If nothing else, it gives me more to write about.”

“Everyone has heard the expression, ‘Give a man a fish, he eats for a day; teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime.’ If you don’t learn to critique, you will always be dependent on others to help you instead of being able to do it by yourself.”

“Art changes how we view the surface of the world to reveal truth or beauty—or both—underneath.”

Rainbow of Poetry: Green

`bananaprincess:iconbananaprincess: reports, September 3, 2006
Welcome to the fourth edition of Rainbow of Poetry. Each week, our contribution team from the literature community selects poems that relate to a certain color of the rainbow. This series also highlights the much-improved v5 search and new literature previews, as both have made finding poems to feature much easier.

Our color this week is green, and the selected poems contain frogs, sea nymphs, foliage, greenbacks, and more. We have commentary by our lovely contributors again, and two classic green poems. We hope you enjoy them!

"The New Ritual" by *Bogbrush is a brief and potentially revolting glimpse at the dangers of mowing your lawn in spring!

"When I Have Felt" by ~thislightthat is a lush, thriving poem.

"the sea nymph" by ~merrydishnig -- Green ocean - a green life. This a romantic, vivid scene portraying a conflict of opposites - the sea and shore. Loving or leaving, this poem shows movement and grace.

"Self dated" by ~Incandescent -- One of the comments left of this piece mentions bile and it's a good word to be linked to those sickeningly self-confident people we all stumble across from time to time. When you read this poem you don't want to like the character portrayed, but a little touch of jealousy niggles at you somewhere.

Between the grass, the dance and the little Peace Frog, "quick stop by the Morrison..." by ~childoftheuniverse paints a green picture worth remembering!

"Fishing Bulls From Hands" by =kaujot is a wonderful romantic poem that uses the word green three times to evoke emotions and complement imagery. The lines: You stop my flight with a whisper, / one tinged green and not of envy contrast so well with So hand in hand we walk along that green street / and the birds know enough / that they fly in front of us to show the diversity of this colour.

"bluebell woods" by =the-beastie is a beautiful nature poem with strong images of both green and blue--a perfect transition into our feature for next week!

Classic green poems:
"all in green" by e.e. cummings
"The Ivy Green" by Charles Dickens

Two classic poems this time? Nice. I'm not much for romantic stuff right now, but "Fishing Bulls from Hands" was very nice and is my favourite of this weeks selections.
