GUI Champs 2006 Announce The GUI’s is the ultimate Graphical User Interface (GUI) competition

Graphics designers from around the world will be competing in three primary GUI categories; Icons, Visual Styles and Wallpapers. This years’ competition has a prize pool totaling near $12,000!Starting Tuesday, September 12th, skinners will be able to submit their work to the competition website (http://www.guichamps.com), with the first events being judged in early October, and the overall “Best Skinner” crowned the second week of November.

The GUI Championships 2006 is the third run for the competition and is supported by a number of highly-regarded technology and artist community sites. This year, our primary community sponsors are:

:star: WinCustomize

:star: DeviantArt

:star: Neowin

:star: Betanews

:star: Lockergnome

:star: Microangelo

In addition to our community sponsors, we’re very close to announcing our two premier corporate sponsors who are going to be offering up some of our top competition prizes. News on our premier sponsors and the top competition prizes will be posted to the competition site in the coming weeks.

We’ve got a lot planned for the competition this year, so be sure to head over to the site, check out the rules and schedule and get those graphics tools fired up! Participate as an individual artist, or sign-up with a team of artists to be considered for additional team prizes.

In years past, some of the best skins, icons and walls came out of this competition, so we can’t wait to see what comes out on top this year!

Non-windows users always get all the crap... and that includes me T_T
~Fyorl:iconFyorl: Sep 12, 2006, 11:49:58 AM
I know! There's no point wasting talent on Windows, it's ugly and if you try to make it pretty, it just slows it down more. Why not doing GUI contests for Macs? They look good enough as it is, it'll take some real talent to snaz those up. Linux is also an option, there aren't that many decent KDE themes around...
~Zoomba77:iconZoomba77: Sep 12, 2006, 12:05:44 PM
WindowBlinds actually has a negligible impact on system performance. Same thing for IconPackager.

As to customizing MacOS X, Apple locks down the UI so tight that I don't think there's any way to go in and do much of any customizing to the core UI.

On Linux, sure you can go in and make a KDE theme, but there aren't many intuitive tools to build the UI in, in the first place. It's not a very friendly system to skin if you aren't expert at what you're doing.

Actually, macs are so beautiful they don't need any GUI at all :D

And lol, I have both a PC and a Mac, but I don't use my PC at all, it's just too ugly >_<
