After last years spooktacular success, deviantART is absolutely horrified to bring you Be Afraid 2006 Photography Contest, a photography contest for all you creatures of the night. I 'm going to be doing things a bit differently though this year. Last year I wanted to be scared, well I still do, but this year your focus will be on Halloween in general. Be it the spooks that go bump in the night, the boogy man or the more festive/seasonal scenes that make up the holiday. What does Halloween mean to you? Capture it, submitt it and who know you could win some ghoultastic swag. Did I hear someone ask what kind of swag? Well, how's about a 1yr subscription to deviantART as well as a prints account for the winner sound? More gore you say? Ok then both 1st and 2nd place will receive the Showtimes Masters of Horror dvd boxset courtesy of Anchor Bay Entertainment. That's right all 13 episodes of the critically acclaimed horror series, including the banned on broadcast television "Imprint" by Takashi Miike. How do you like them apples?


The Contest:


Capture what you feel to be the essense of the Halloween season. Is it like the Misfits lyrics above or are your feelings less of a supernatural nature and more down to earth family settings. Do you imagine gobins and ghosts, Freddie and Jason, or candy apples, jack-o lanterns and ghost stories?


The Rules:


Contest will run from Oct 1st to November 5th 2006 (entries must be submitted by 11:59pm est on the 5th) this gives you enough time to get in all those devils night and All Hallows Eve pictures.


One entry per person. Must be a new deviation submitted between the dates listed above. There is no watcher or pageview limit. To enter simply submit your deviation to the Be Afraid category.. that's it! (the submission process is deviation > community events > contests > be afraid.)


NO MANIPULATIONS!! If you cannot do it in a dark room it's not allowed. If you have to ask if you can do it in a darkroom, you probably can't so don't ask. There are plenty of creative things one can do with makeup, light and props to create a fearsome, spooky photo, you do not need Photoshop.
