HDR photography is still a technology in it's infancy, but one with much potential, and one who's use is on the rise.
what is HDR? it's an acronym for High Dynamic Range. As it applies to photography, the idea is to take several shots of the same thing at different exposures. Those images can then be merged using Photoshop CS2, or standalone programs such as Photomatix, to increase the dynamic range of the photo (less detail lost to clipped shadows and highlights). This produces a 32 bit image, often called an HDRi.

I really enjoyed how you explained it all, and those links are such an added bonus!!
Lovely examples as well, just some ideas for your next edition. I would suggest that you lead into the features so that there is more spotlight on them, and so that your readers get a better feel of where the article is heading. Running the article through a spell check would also help out greatly and point out any grammatical errors you may have made.
Good luck with future articles! I'll be looking forward to them.
