`SparrowSong on writing, critique and her passions

^lovetodeviate:iconlovetodeviate: reports, September 28
An interview with writer, critic (critiquer?), lit senior, `SparrowSong. Here are some tidbits:

“I like that my passions change. If nothing else, it gives me more to write about.”

“Everyone has heard the expression, ‘Give a man a fish, he eats for a day; teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime.’ If you don’t learn to critique, you will always be dependent on others to help you instead of being able to do it by yourself.”

“Art changes how we view the surface of the world to reveal truth or beauty—or both—underneath.”

:pointr:Gallery Pages

You have probably noticed that the gallery pages ( literature.deviantart.com ) have been redirected to the browse page. We are waiting on links to the literature forum and news to be added to the browse page. We expected this to happen last week but we took some time to discuss the best way forward. The links will be added soon (lala) but we have decided that we need to get community input on the options available.

In this week's Artist Relation newsletter $Moonbeam13 will be asking for your input, thoughts, and ideas on what you want the gallery pages to be, so please keep an eye on the news and let us know your views.

:pointr:Regular Articles and Features

`bananaprincess and ^imperfect are working on themed literature features. We hope to have the first one posted for Haloween :)

^PoeticWar's On-going Critique Competition has a new winner in *SparrowSong. Her critiques here and here were noted especially in this decision. Congratulations to her, and remember to keep your eye out for exceptional critique, and to keep up by critiquing others.

:pointr:Sowing

*suture is back in some capacity and we should all be excited. Check out their latest journal to get involved in their newest work. A lot of people are interested in helping out on dA, and the people involved are very interesting, well-respected folk around here, so it's a win-win.

Whether your Winter is melting slowly away as Spring stretches its legs or the Autumn breeze is taking on a bitter edge, get comfy and bring out that inner child with *sisterjanet's remarkably philosophical fairytale, The History of Snowmen.

vanilla latte by ~SirMink slips sly humour around an uneasy topic to bring us well executed dialogue and a carefully controlled rhythm.

Writing in the 'second' person is hard to pull off in fiction. ~Bastion-Booger
calls The Supermarket a biography. If you're a "worker ant" stuck in that retail world of disinfected linoleum and checkouts bleeping, perhaps it could be yours.

The spotlight flickered, trembled, like a pale, neurotic moth in a flame. ... "Just do it, already." ~Sapph0's short story Coffee and Bubble-gum glows with unexpected warmth, and will make you wish you'd been nicer to those poor, fear-stricken kids who were never cut out for the stage.

Prose featured on 5th Oct 2006 by ^adrift

Biology of the Staple Remover by `triptychr will brighten up anyone's day in the office. Just lie back and think of Sir David Attenborough.

Prose featured on 6th Oct 2006 by ^adrift and suggested by *Amalgamadora

When Nathan joined the infantry, he expected to die soon, but he had no idea what he'd discover about himself along the way. Told through two opposite parallel timelines--one in data logs and the other in real time--=GunShyMartyr's Death of Nathan Caulfield is a story of transition, purpose and fulfillment. Read it and discover why survival is sometimes a greater hell than war.

Prose featured on 7th Oct 2006 by ^imperfect and suggested by `alienhead

Met by ~PoetMe is succinct and well-crafted. The description and ending sentence introduce the poem excellently: 'a meeting of eyes'.

Sewing

Sowing pertains to agriculture/horticulture/other plant-growing activities of the burying seeds variety. Unless that's what you meant.
`imperfect:iconimperfect: Oct 9, 2006, 4:02:41 AM
It is :)

I thought it was a nice play on words - as in suture are sowing seeds and, you know, stopping the bleeding.
