Art is distinctively a product of imagination, of that faculty of the mind which has to do with perceiving images, the image of one thing in the form of another. While science, therefore, may find a single form interesting in itself, art, at its best, never does. It looks for another form with which the first may be compared

Traditional art, undiscovered treasures. I love to keep an eye out for new artists and exciting traditional artworks, and I often find some real treasures that have not yet been discovered by the massive majority of DA, and so I have recently been thinking about making a kind of news feature for it, which I finally got to do. I Will here feature artworks that I think deserve a lot more attention. That does not mean they do not have any favourites at all, of course, but surely not as many as many of the DD featured works. I will only feature traditional art as far as I am concerned, and this is because that is what interest me the most. I hope to make this a habit, if enough people view it to make it really worth it.
Well, I might as well just go ahead with it! Here are some that caught my eye over some time:
"Tangled Up In Green" by ~backdrift Is a real charm of an installation. The combination of the traditional painting with the sculpture of the dog, as well as the man's legs, comeplete this piece to be something really striking. The way the man looks at the dogs, and the position of his hands suggest something more to this image than just a man and a dog. And what can I say? Green is my favourite colour...
"Untitle4" by ~nunwhorecommando Is a fabulous example of the effect you can get by using the complimentaries. It as a soothing feel to it, and simply make me relax when I look at it. The detail of the boat and the female face together with the smooth aquarelle shades and reflections makes it simply stunning. Notice the seagrass and alges on the rope of the boat.
"Repeat" by ~veyselkurucu Is something I have simply never seen before in a traditional oil painting. The way the reflection has been made, with the figure standing in slightly different poses, and the way you overlook this in the beginnig, and have to look another time. The calm browns against the green you slightly see on the wall, is a great example of what you can really achieve with this few main colours in a painting.
"The World Serpent" by *faile35 Made me think of the Midgard worm even before reading the description. It is a stunning representation of the world serpent clenching himself around mother earth to bite himself in the tail. The modelling of the snake is wonderfully executed, and the comlimentaries are thoroughly followed up through the painting. A wonderful example of what you can find throughout this person's gallery, although he mostly does drawings.
"Anthony Daniels" by ~Raats Is one of the first deviations I favourited here on DA, I believe. I am still amused to see how well the face is made as well as the challenging reflections on the robot head. And again, I adore the use of colours here. This drawer has something special, and gets a remarkable result using pen, paint and coloured pencils, that few of us can accomplish straight away.
"Memories" by ~asage Caught me speechless the first time I saw it. The scales on the fish must have taken a lot of time, I know that feeling, but it is just something about the way they bring the whole painting alive. You instantly look at the kind of egg shaped bubbles, and then it just tips it off with the eyes reminding of bubbles as well. An amazing acrylic painting, indeed.
"Flamingos" by *thegryph Has a great warm feel to it. Flamingos on a hot summer evening, halfway in the shade. It is one of the pastels drawings I like the most, when I come to think of it. It is done in a rough way, but with several smooth areas, bringing it all together so nicely. And besides, flamingos are really cool animals.
"Red Hands" by *draunaturel Has one of the loveliest textures, in my opinion. The texture on the wood panel is worked out so thoroughly before being painted over, and I simply adore how it is so visible though the simplicity of the figure itself. Although this is not his most usual style, it certainly builds up for some interest. Yet here the colours make the painting a little more tense, it is also calming in a way I cannot describe. It is funny how the mind works with colours..
"Solitude" by ~HOULY1970 Has some amazing pencil work, for sure. For those of you who enjoy realism, this is a piece for you, because the shading and reflection in the water just blows me away. However, it is still keeping the characteristical texture from the pencil. A smooth piece of eye candy for us pencil lovers.
"Virginal Mind - Backcover" by ~RainerKalwitz Has a splendid sense of surreality. We all reckognize the typical desert theme, but looking closer, at the little pond the man is in, makes this another little treasure to love. I cannot get enough of that hand holding around the frame on this illustration, it is lovely how such a small detail can catch ones interest. Now, this one, unlike many surreal works I have seen with desert, has included cracks in the earth, which simply makes it all the better!
This was the end of the feature for this time, I hope for a good response in order to keep them coming as often as I have the time. Happy browsing, everyone!
*Slaps herself with a large trout* Yeah, the title was supposed to be "treasures".. not trestures obviously.. Well, what can I say, it is Friday the 13th, isn't it?
I agree. The writeups make the article seem polished, it's obvious that you've spent a lot of effort on it instead of just grabbing a bunch of random thumbs. Great features too and a fine amount of variety.
Yes, these are all picked from my favourites, all stunning pieces of art. I guess one can see through the feature my own taste, but I suppose that is also a way to show things, from my perspective. I also think that each of them deserve a little comment to them, and I wanted to describe just what makes me love them so much. Kind of like the DDs and the comments they get, just in a different way.
Thank you, I will keep doing as this for the next ones then, as it seems to be recieved well. I picked them all from my personal favourites, but picking artworks that had not yet gotten that much attention that they desverve. Glad you like it, it is my first article here, so I hope to improve it even more.
I know, I do the same with my "Beautiful Ideas" article, since I'm tired of suggesting DD's ans seeing none of them are featured. I just keep it original and interesting, as you do too too! =]
