Many of our users are familiar with the photography of Mike and Lisa Husar, who have been capturing unique wildlife images on film since 1993 when they formed Team Husar Wildlife Photography. The couple has had their award winning imagery featured in magazines, calendars, cards, and all manner of publications and they have been involved in education and conservation through their photography.
A quick visit to their website can inspire any artist, and that is where we here at deviantART have encountered a problem.
Amateur artists, beginners and photo manipulators often rely heavily on the work or professional photographers such as Mike and Lisa Husar- often directly using their photographs or reproducing their imagery in paint, pencil or other mediums. While such efforts might be a great way to sharpen your skills it unfortunately infringes on the rights of the photographer.
Ive spoken with Mike Husar and in order to help him enforce his right to require licensing for the use of Team Husar photography we will be removing all instances of photo manipulations involving their photography, which is actually our standard response to this sort of unauthorized use.
However in addition we will also be removing airbrushings, paintings, sketches, and all other reproductions which are clearly based on their photography.
This news article is intended to both inform all of you in our community of this procedure and to also ask you for your assistance in this matter.
If you have based one of your deviantART submissions on a copyrighted Team Husar photograph we ask that you voluntarily remove it. We also ask that if you should discover something of this nature during your daily browsing that you report the submission using the
Too Devious? link on every submission page.
By voluntarily removing your infringement you will avoid having your submission deleted by staff and you will avoid any administrative action so please take this opportunity to show that you respect the rights of these hard working photographers.
If you absolutely wish to directly use Team Husar photography as a reference you will be required to obtain a legal license from them. This process shows that you respect their rights and the effort they invest in every photograph.

Why is this message spread with such emphasis on the Team Husar copyright infringement, when you say this law should apply to any other photos under copyright?
I think this warning should've been issued without mentioning any specific photographers, as it transmits the general idea that only the deviations that infringe this specific case will be removed. Am I missing something?
Best regards

By the way, I had no idea I couldn't do, for instance, a drawing of a photo. I thought the concept of "reproduction" was specifically reffered to the creation of a work which blatantly copies another, being that this new work could mislead the viewer into thinking the "false" one was the original. Someone once drew one of my photos, and only told it to me after doing it. It was a naive painting, and I felt flattered with it, and said I loved it. I had no idea it could be interpreted as an illegal act...
