The inventor meets the pioneer in the worlds first sonic duel as BT and Thomas Dolby set a course for virtual supremacy. BT is a pioneer and innovator of modern electronic music, who is currently pushing the boundaries with This Binary Universe, a DTS release, creating unique soundscapes seamlessly blended with digital art visuals.

Thomas Dolby is a living legend, blinding us with electronic science back in 1982 with the seminal "The Golden Age of Wireless".

Now, prepare to be overwhelmed with an array of audio and visual wizardry as these two innovators perform live for you, accompanied by widescreen high definition film presentations, with impeccable digital sound mixed in 5.1 live on-stage for 21 performances beginning November 28th through December 22nd.

“BT is a modern master,” says Thomas Dolby about his on stage counterpart. “He has broadened the scope of electronic music with new studio techniques [that] most producers can only wonder at.”

Godfather Thomas Dolby will be performing solo with a bank of high tech computers, , a collection of vintage oscilloscopes and signal generators, a military headcam and antique radio operator earphones strapped to his head.

“The audience seemed mesmerized by Dolby’s compositional and musical dexterity…Far from coming off as strictly a nostalgia act, the evening unfolded as a celebration of his past …and a harbinger for his future as a revitalized performer.” says the Chicago Tribune.

Deviants Take the Stage!

In addition to this already spectacular event, we now bring you the proverbial icing on the cake.

At each of the 21 venues across North America, 30 local deviants in each area will be invited along with a friend to have their artwork shown on the massive on stage projection screen at the venue. Courtesy of deviantART!

That's right. Deviants will have their art displayed live as a part of a 30 minute pre-show leading up to the beginning of the show. That is close to 600 artists whose work will be shown in 21 venues across North America. The invasion has begun!
 

How is this possible?

We reached out to three great technology companies who we thought were interesting for deviantART, BT and Thomas Dolby and for different reasons. In alphabetical order:

• DivX

  While researching the best technology options for displaying film on the web we identified DivX as the technology company of choice. The visual and sound elements built into "This Binary Universe" stretch the limits of audio and video.

  In order to provide the best possible user experience with the download we wanted to maximize the audio with MP3 Surround sound and the dvd quality video in order to capture the jaw dropping visuals. DivX's technology offers both superior audio and video quality while also providing great compression. This combination is unmatched by any other technology company. So, we invited DivX along on the tour and they were so excited about the idea that they agreed to go a step further and become a sponsor!

• MP3tunes

  A high definition file with MP3 surround is a big file to download even in the day and age of broadband (180+ MegaBytes!) So we went down to San Diego to get the scoop on MP3tunes and their Sideload service.

To say that we take pride in offering over 600 deviants the opportunity to have their work shown in this way is an understatement.

This tour is a next step in our evolution as a creative community. Presenting BT and Thomas Dolby in 21 locations across North America is only the beginning of how we envision the future. We will continue closing the gap between the online world and the offline world till there is no distinguishable difference.
