How cool: Printable Lens Hoods

~eydryan:iconeydryan: reports, November 8, 2006
There has not been anything greater since the invention of the digital wheel than this stuff. I was helped to forget my lens hood at a friend at one time and well i found this while stumbling:

FREE downloadable printable lens hoods for most SLR lenses

I found both my zuikos there and to quote them "A brand new replacement lens hood for the Canon EF 600mm f/4 L USM IS costs a whopping GBP439.99. Alternatively, you can download it from this site for free! Granted, the genuine item is likely to be a bit sturdier, but that's still GBP439.99 you're saving!"

How cool is that!

And you can get them totally free here:

Of course my suggestion would be to print them on cardboard rather than normal paper (duh..) but i think for a test normal paper will do, just to see how nicely they fit :)

Now be a sport and comment on what i do ;)

hahah.. thats cool... except i would rather shoot with a real one -- they are about 9$ ... and well if it is windy, you wont have it blow down in your view :)

yeah well one for mine is about 30$ and i have to wait two weeks to get it. plus if you make it from cardboard it doesn't "blow down in your view"...

but hey if you can find yours so cheaply enjoy :)

If you own a Canon EF 600mm F4 L USM lens I doubt £440 is going to bother you much for a lens hood. ;)

if there's one thing i know from all my shooting every buck counts... and when you need some piece of hardware for like tomorrow i guess it's useful.

i like the idea and they actually do work, just made mine today...

and you know how it is, if you have the green, then why are you here :P

I love the idea, personally I resent paying out ridiculous amounts of money for a bit of plastic.

Am I not allowed to point out that if you have the money to spend on a £5900 lens then a £440 is higly likely to be a drop in the ocean?

:iconeydryan:
well, not really... every cent counts in this business and if all the money you make you spend on gear then you end up nowhere...

well that and people won't even buy a flash diffuser for 15$ max when they own a mark with the 70-200 IS and a slave flash unit. so the more expensive your gear is, the cheaper you get from what i've seen...

Yeah I saw that, I can see Getty photographers dumping their metal, black felt lined, colour coded hoods overnight!

Also the 300/400/500/600mm primes all have screw on hoods so you'd have to duck tape a cardboard hood on.

Nothing says pro more than duck tape and cardboard!

(although my 70-200 hood is fitted on with duck tape...)

Beards not bombs.
:iconeydryan:
hehe, there you go :P

i think you could maybe mod these, since you're making them out of cardboard, mod them so you can attach them to the lens hood slots on the lens...

i'll try to figure out how with my camera...
