Welcome to the weekly Help Desk news. In these weekly updates we will attempt to bring you the most up to date information, as well as provide some helpful hints for super duper deviantART fun.
Reminder
Before we get started this week we would like to remind users of a request still standing.
"In May we announced there was some data loss of downloadable files only, uploaded between 2004 and 2005. Backups have been loaded and before they can be run developers are asking for your help in fixing this issue. In order to help aide them in this request this is what we need from you: We need you to gather links to any pieces, including your own, which are affected by this issue.
Once gathered please send these links to the Help Desk under the contact category "Gallery Section Addition".
Once the Help Desk Team has gathered enough links from users, developers will know the exact pattern to where files are affected and can run the needed backups to repair these files to their original working order.
(Please note: This issue should not be confused with other gallery issues present at this time.)"
Hexe's Corner
I've been debating back and forth with myself over the past two weeks on doing a FAQ Update article, but I do not know if there will be as big a demand for such as are these updates. So this week I would like to ask you the viewer if you would like to see FAQ update articles every two weeks? Be it on edits or new additions or upcoming features. Let me know, I am willing to do them but i would like to see that they're wanted.
Ewm's Corner
This week I would like to remind everyone that the Help Desk is for asking deviantART related inquiries only. On occasion we do get inquiries concerning deviantART skins and extensions which are not officially supported.
In addition we have also seen inquiries asking how to draw. While we love to help users as much as possible, the Community Help Desk is only for inquiring about general site usage, subscription matters, policy matters, and reporting bugs and site abuse.
However, there are several other locations on deviantART where these sorts of questions can be answered such as the
Forum or the
Tutorial gallery section.
Bug Corner
The top issues being reported this week are...
Gallery Issues -
The Gallery Issues mentioned previously are still pending a fix. (
Status: This issue is still pending a fix.)
AOL Issues - AOL 9.0 users are reporting that features dependent on javascript are failing. (
Status: This issue is being investigated and we should have some light soon.)
Hidden Comment Issues - Users are reporting issues with comment hiding, either they read blank when trying to view them or they remain un-hidden when logged out. (
Status: This issue has been put on the bug listing for review and should be fixed soon.)
Favourites' Counter Glitch - We have been receiving reports of favourite counters being way off, sometimes reporting favourite counts in the millions or hundreds of thousands and sometimes minus millions of favourites.
If you're affected by this issue, please contact the Help Desk with a url to the piece so the count can be fixed.
Full View Counter Issues - Users are reporting that the full view counters on their deviations have stopped counting. To
refresh why this is..
"Full view counts will most likely be removed entirely in place of a statistic on your main page that gives a total viewing of your gallery as opposed to just your main page." (
Status: this change is still pending.)
Fixed
Prose > Fiction > Fantasy Issues - We have received some reports that deviations submitted to this category are reporting that the deviations are under maintenance shortly after submitting them. (
Status: FIXED)
Browse Issues - Users are reporting that while browsing the newest categories that these categories report there is no deviations to view when there is. (
Status: FIXED)
Weekly Tip
When submitting an inquiry for help, always be sure to be as clear and detailed as possible. This will not only help avoid confusion on our end, or worse ours and yours, but will result in a much faster resolution.
