`GeneratingHype on letters, editing and GDship

^lovetodeviate:iconlovetodeviate: reports, August 30
An interview with ex-GD, writer, editor, fascinating person: `GeneratingHype. Here are some tidbits from the interview (which I recommend reading in full):

"Letters presuppose a sort of authenticity, and I truly believe that a story—no matter the form—needs to be authentic and believable.

"Sometimes I wish I had stories such as "I wrote my first published poem at three and a half!" or "I started writing stories at two!", but writing never came easy for me and is still not very easy for me.

The Use of Adverbs in Fiction Writing

=DarcKnyt:iconDarcKnyt: reports, August 29
Adverbs are the endangered species of the adult fiction world. They're frowned on like putting a Baby Ruth bar in a punch bowl at a wedding reception -- not a good idea. They're also indicative of weak writing ... but why? This article covers why adverbs are evil and what you can do to avoid using them.

OJ "Confesses" Murder for Book and Show

`xork:iconxork: reports, November 16, 2006
OJ Simpson, who, according to one jury of his peers, didn't murder Nicole Brown and Ron Goodman 12 years ago, is set to release a book detailing how he would have done it, had he done it. The book, entitled If I Did It, Here's How It Happened will follow a TV interview on the same theme later this month.

Fox News, who will air the interview, said in a statement that "Simpson hypothetically describes how he would have carried out the murders." The book meanwhile will be published by Regan Books, whose publisher Judith Regan is conducting the TV interview. Both Regan Books and Fox News are owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. According to the New York Post (also owned by News Corp), OJ was paid $3.5m for the book.

Nicole Brown's sister Denise condemned the interview in a statement, saying, "We hope Ms Regan takes full accountability for promoting the wrongdoing of criminals and leveraging this forum and the actions of Simpson to commercialise abuse."

While the Juice was acquitted of all criminal charges, he was found guilty in a later civil trial and was ordered to pay the victims' families $33.5m. Since he hasn't, to date, paid any of it, all his profits from the book and TV-appearance will go to the heirs of the victims.

OJ has spent so many years so adamantly denying that he committed those murders, I seriously doubt he'll roll now. I think the whole "confession" business is the networks spinning what will really occur.

My guess is that he's going to describe a scenario completely different from what actually took place, and use that to illustrate why he's innocent. "If I had done it, I would have done it like THIS instead, not like THAT."
