Printmaking Series Two - Intaglio Printing II

^stigmatattoo:iconstigmatattoo: reports, July 12
Printmaking produces images with visual qualities that are very different from those obtained through drawing or painting directly, and each technique adds its own peculiarities to the way each piece is conceived. However, with its odd and alchemical combinations of unusual materials, specific tools and enormous machines, Printmaking is often a strange and foreign territory even for artists accustomed to studio work on other disciplines.

Undiscovered traditional treasures! #2

*IT-Hammar:iconIT-Hammar: reports, November 18, 2006
Traditional art, undiscovered treasures.
Here is the second edition of the feature where I feature great artworks from my favourites, that I think have that little extra. I hope you'll enjoy it, so that I will keep it going (:

"Green Fairy" by *brandozim
Though the motif is something we have seen before, to some extent, this has a great feeling to it, with the earthly colours and the dynamic pose of the fairy rising up from the glass. One of the things I like the most, funny enough, is actually that the artist painted her hair blue, as well as parts of the background, and used only a minimal amount of black, which is usually very good to avoid when one can. The blue is a great contrast with the browns, and balances out the whole in such a beautiful way, and those seemingly random splashes of green almost makes it look as if she was jumping out of the glass, dragging some of that Absinthe with her on the way. You should definantly check out this artist's gallery as well, while your at it. You would not regret it!

"Fall" by ~Sericat
For everyone of you who have not already seen this painting, get your butt over there right now! When I first looked at this one I was surprised, and shocked that it did not already get a DD, but that is beside the point. I think the colours in this acrylic painting is awesome, they are warm and loving, and the whole greatness of the composition and the technique makes it very easy to forgive that the artist did not use a whole lot of complimentary colours (Which I love, of course). The look the figure gives you, and that beautiful body lying there on the leaves can make anybody melt. This is great art indeed.

"Poeta" by ~albertotarsicio
Simply a magnificent oil painting. When I first saw this painting, I was mesmerized by the depth of it, the amazing colours and the surreal environment. Even now, after seeing it a couple of times, I still find something new to notice, and enjoy. You can find such a story in this one if you look at all the items placed around, the figures, and the place. And it makes you sit and wonder a little about what this girl is sitting writing.. poetry, according to the title? Who knows? It is simply a fantastic oil painting that you all ought to have a look at. Go there!

"Critter Study 2: Chee Goldfish" by =OpalGryphon
A very simple, calm watercolour painting, and yet there is something special about it. Look at the wonderful details in the way she uses the colours, the texture of the water, and the great contrast between the fish and the water. I guess I would not normally find a painting like this that interesting, but as I said, there is something about it. I am just feeling really peaceful while looking at it and studying the techniques and composition.

"The Dancer" by ~spoook
What caught my eye at first when I saw this painting was the reflection in the floor, actually. The artist has really been good at capturing that, and it looks almost like a sort of godly light around the feet that is without doubt the most important part of a dancer. They are the tools! The pose they are in immediately suggests to us the dancer, even before reading the title at all. And the warm glow of the feet against the cold blue pants is such a good contrast that you can also see used throughout the painting, everywhere it is orange, and blue.. orange and blue, mixed and composed in such an harmonic way that just makes you want to look at it again.

"Hanein" by `sphilr
Another amazing painting I was shocked to see with so little attention. I am still a little surprised every time I see it is an oil painting and not a digital one, because that was my instant thought. The detailed texture of the sky is so beautiful, and the over all composition and use of colours is great. I am wondering what the girl is thinking..

"Ophelia" by :devfagashil:
Most of us has heard about Shakespeare's Ophelia, and I think this is a really good drawing of the theme. I have been playing with doing a drawing of her myself, and when i looked at this one, I felt really inspired! It has a great feeling to it, it is emotional, calm, sad, and peaceful. And the funny thing is that it looks almost like the is standing behind a wall of water, and you are seeing her from the front rather than looking down on her. A very interesting view if you play a little with the eyes trying it see that.

"Max" by *FrogPond
This is different from anything I have seen inside Artisan Crafts, it is a very challenging technique that this artist masters very well. It is amazing to see how these different wood pieces are stuck together to create this face of a dog, in depth, colour, shape and expression. Pieces like these are rare, and whenever I see one, it just makes my inspiration go to top and instantly make me want to create something as well. You should really check this one out!

"Fuga De La Esperanza" by ~afortiz
A very fresh piece, I'd say! It holds the style of the renaissance, but with a strong touch of surrealism, some more abstract, and some extreme realism as well. You can go on an adventure trip into this painting for sure! And it is really a curiousity that it has been left as unseen as it is.The composition is great, the colours are excellent, and the technique used is brilliant. When you full view this one, notice the smooth brush work, and the amazing detail on the bottom of the picture, and the crab behind the woman. There is so much to look at here! I keep finding something new all the time, and I love that.

"Ywarista" by ~Payo-X
I love this one, it is simple and complicated at the same time. Particularly the kind of tiles the figure is lying on are really well shaped with the pencil. And again this is one of those pictures that have a lot to keep you busy while looking. FIrst you notice one thing, then another, and then simply more and more. The fantastic shapes that are in this drawing are magnificent to look at, and reminds of something that could be in a science fiction movie or something, and makes one think of artists like Geiger. The wonderful thing is that it is still not even close to resembling his work, it is something on its own, and it does it well!
