Digital Art
Gallery Description: "Digital Art, unlike traditional, means artwork originally created via the use of digital tools that mimic traditional utensils such as computer imaging/3D software, digital pen & tablet, computer mouse, or any similar tools.
There is a consideration, of course, for works that were created through traditional means, but were improved with the assistance of a computer. The decision, then, to pick either Traditional Art or Digital Art as the submission gallery for such works is left primarily to the discretion of the artist. If you feel that your work exhibits more traditionally-grounded techniques than digital ones, then Traditional Art should be the home for your submission. If you feel that there's been more digital work done to the piece than traditional work, then Digital Art should be the home for your submission."
In short, digital art is any type of artwork that was created on a computer using a variety of tools and programs. Since computers first became popular in people's homes, art software has increasingly became popular as well, and more powerful too. Programs such as Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Apophysis, Illustrator, 3ds, Lightwave, and a variety of other digital software packages have helped end the arguement of whether or not digital artwork is a legitimate medium. As we become a digital world, doubts such as those are dismissed, even forgotten about as we have friendly embraced this type of art into our every day lives.
The only thing I would like to point out is traditional images scanned in digital scanners should be posted to the appropriate traditional gallery. Likewise, digital photographs should be posted to the appropriate photography gallery. The only exception to this is when the image is finished using digital techniques, and the descretion is up to the artist to where it should be posted. Please read the gallery descriptions, or ask for help if unsure about where your art belongs.
Below is a very brief set of visual examples for each main digital sub-gallery. *
Edit: this is just a general overview of images. Not all the sub-galleries are shown because of the volume of images required. More specific examples will be shown when the areas are defined further in future editions.
3 Dimensional
Drawings
Fractal
Miscellaneous
Paintings & Airbrushing
Photomanipulation
Pixel Art
Text Art
Vector Art
Vexel Art: created 1 Mar 2007
As you can see, each type of art has its own characteristics that sets it apart from the other digital mediums. Each week I will be covering a different section, showing art from that section, and helping explain what defines the type of art should that be posted to each gallery. The goal is to help people find the right gallery for their digital art when it is submitted. Each one of these articles will be linked back to this one and forward linked so that they all will be tied together for ease of use.

I'm really looking forward to the series!
I'm hoping this will help people understand the digital galleries.

Only thing is, it would be nice to see some stuff that we haven't seen before.
quite a few of these are seen on a daily basis.
i think if they have commas in the # of favs, featuring is kinda redundant. I think =d

When I get into the sub-sub-galleries I'll do some serious looking but there was no way I was going to dig into the main sections for such a general overview.
This is definately a series that will grow and evolve to fill in the sections.

Its a great idea to help spread the word about the digital media. I hope also that it gets rid of some of the myths that if something is done in photoshop its not really art. I get the question "is this painted or is this photoshop" a LOT, and to that I say "its painted, in photoshop"
I really look forward to this series of news articles, and I hope they get a lot of exposure.

I won't talk about concrete pieces but I think that there are lots of better pieces on DA to describe each category. Sorry if I'm being an ass but these are just my two cents
