Photoshop is an AMAZING program in terms of what it can do. You can create awesome photomanipulations, edit your photos, color your drawings, and even do digital painting.

All too often, however, the Photoshop interface that you see when you first open up the program can be quite intimidating for those new users out there. Fortunately, there's always the Help file that is included with Photoshop, and there's quite a few web resources out there. So, let's get started, shall we?

One question I get asked quite a bit is how to load a brush in Photoshop. As someone who knows Photoshop fairly well, I can completely understand the confusion that someone who hasn’t used Photoshop for very long would experience. The biggest mis-conception that most people who are new to Photoshop have is that, after you have downloaded the brush file, you can just open it with Photoshop, and it should be loaded afterwards.




The right way to load brushes in Photoshop



Assuming that you’ve already downloaded a Photoshop brush that you want, your next task is to move it to the Brushes sub-folder inside the Photoshop program files folder location (Photoshop 7 and up, only)


On Windows, this is how you can access that folder: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop\Presets\Brushes



Now, if you’ve done everything as shown up to this point, all that’s left to do now is load them for later use in Photoshop. Firstly, make ABSOLUTE SURE that you’ve got the Brushes palette active. Then, click on the little arrow that’s pointing to the right to bring up the Brushes menu (See [link] if you need a visual guide to doing this). What you want to do is select “Load Brushes”. Finally, browse for your downloaded brushes, and you’re done

To paint a straight line, just click the brush once in your image area, then move your cursor where you want the end of your straight line, hold the Shift key down, then click and a straight line will be painted between the two points.
