My main purpose in doing a monthly feature about (to my point of view) 'the best visual art' is to put in the same level as well wellknown artists and popular creations as unknown artists and under-exposed creations.
Artists need to be supported.
So don't be shy!
Visit their pages, support them by faving, commenting, and when you see a deviation that you like also view their gallery entirely, like that you can decide if you will devwatch them or not.
Viewing only a deviation (what is great) is not enough
And if you want to see your favorite visual artists or art selected to be in this feature for the next month, send me via note the links/thumbs!

An explanation:
The reason that some of these deviations were submitted in September and even after even though deviantart opened in August is because when deviantart was first created, it was mainly for customisation and skins. If you look back, you will see that the first images mainly consist of customization themes.
Of course, there is a slight possibility that some of these may be incorrect, I tried my hardest, and searched over 3 years to find them, its not as easy as it looks. But as far as I can tell, these are, indeed, the first.
Some may not be pretty,

The one from customization is the first submitted into DA, officially.
It states "Yes, it's the oldest upload here. Where are 1 through 11? They were internal tests of the upload script. Jark asked me to be the first 'outside' member and upload tester. So this was the first external upload. If you'll look at the date, it predates the official opening by 4 days. After testing was complete I imagine devs 1-11 were deleted.

Lately that I just realised, dA now charges you to browse from past artworks
And of course, you can type the usual browse url:
deviantart.com/deviation/ and just type in smaller numbers, such as 21 etc. Some wont work of course, being deleted or something.
