The Ultimate deviantEXPERIENCE!

*jujimufu:iconjujimufu: reports, January 20, 2007
So, here I am, posting my second news article. I don't like big news articles, so I'll just get right to the point:

This time, I am here to give you a brief list of some of the best firefox extensions that exist in dA and which will make your life a LOT easier, and of course, more fun! :)

The reason why I am making this a news article is because I truly believe all deviants should have knowledge of these scripts, and because I also believe that most of these features can and should be implemented in the original dA code, because they have been asked for many times (example, the "advanced search" feature) in the forums. It took me 1 year to stumble across them, and I don't believe that it should take everyone THAT much in order to have them.

SO finally, what I am talking about is =dancewiththesky's deviantEXPERIENCE series of extensions. It's one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. The time and effort required to make all of these, and the ideas which are also great have given an extremely amazing result.

Here's a list of each one of the scripts and what they do:

--------------------------------------------------------------

FetchMore: This is very handy for viewing galleries. Instead of changing page, with this script you just click on the "Fetch More" button at the bottom of the page (i.e., after you've already scrolled through the first X deviations) and it fetches deviations from the next page and ADDS them to the current page. This means, you don't have to wait for the page to reload, nor you have to start looking through pages in order to find something. You just have everything in one page, which extends the more you click the "Fetch More" button. Amazing, aye?

--------------------------------------------------------------

TransW00t: This one's my most favourite, and most used extension of all. What it does is that it simply adds a multiple-choice menu under every comment in dA and you can translate this way the text in the comment from and to many languages, with direct translations by Babelfish! This has helped me tremendously lot, since the two friends whose dA profiles I visit all the time are Portuguese and I can't understand the comments in their devs or journals ;P

--------------------------------------------------------------

Memories: This is like, the smartest (underlined) thing I've ever seen. You're there, in the user's profile page, and you want to take a quick look through their gallery. Why bother going through their normal gallery? Just click the lightbulb right next to their gallery stats in their profile page, and poof! A pop up window (which has a great design too, btw) pops up (oh well..) and it presents the user's deviations in a random way, much like you would if you just threw all the photos on the ground and were just "window-shopping" them :) You can also choose to view the photos as a film strip, and navigate through them with the mouse wheel. Amazing :D

--------------------------------------------------------------

CrystalBall: Now THIS is what I've been wanting for a long time now (to be honest, since I joined dA...). And I know it's something many-many users have been looking for, as I read in the Suggestions forum. It's an Advanced Search feature: right next to the "search" button an icon appears, and when clicked, it opens a pop-up window where you can choose to search for title, description, including/excluding categories, by a specific deviant(s), with specific width/height yada yada yada. You can do anything you normally have to do by writing down in the search box (i.e. "in:customisation by:deviant" etc etc) but without having to write any code; you just fill in the boxes! It's totally amazing, it's a must that SHOULD be a standard in dA.

--------------------------------------------------------------

DeviousMorning: This is another thing I've been wanting for some time now, and it's a utility that shows the most recent news in your message center. Isn't this amazing? This way, you would have known about this news article without having to visit the News category of dA... See? ;)

--------------------------------------------------------------

RecommendMe: Another great idea, this script gives you the ability to recommend a deviation to another deviant instantly. ou just click the "Recommend Me!" button below the "Download" button in the deviation's page, and you write the name of the deviant(s) you want to recommend it to, and puff! Done!

--------------------------------------------------------------

Panorama: I had never imagined anything like this could be made, and so I never looked for it, but when I found it, and I tested it myself (it seemed a boring idea when I read about it, but then again, it was the only deviantEXPERIENCE extension I hadn't installed, and I am a perfectionist, so...) I saw that words could not explain this. You have complete control over the view of the deviation. You just click the "Panorama View" button under the "Recommend Me!" button (lolz) in the deviation's page, and you get a pop-up window where you can zoom-in, zoom-out and move the deviation at will. You can use your mouse-wheel to control the zooming (=O) and you can set the percentage of zoom, if you want, and of course, you can restore the initial values. Can you believe that?!

==============================================================

So, I hope you enjoy them as much as I did, and please go give some kudos and congratulations to =dancewiththesky for all the work he has done. Also, I hope that if some dA staff member sees this article, and doesn't know about the extensions already, they should talk about this with the coding staff and ask permission from =dancewiththesky in order to implement all of these amazing and stunning features (which would make the dA community even more unique) in the normal source code of the next dA update, whenever that is.

Take care y'all!

Over and out :salute:

It was the least I could do after I discovered your incredible extensions... really... and it's something people NEED to read about, it's something that HAS to be heard by staff members and be implemented in dA. They are so great, really :) Again, congrats and it's me who should thank you! :sumo:
