The Etsy Wars-CNN examines Etsy

^kkart:iconkkart: reports, 1d 15h ago
CNN Money examines in depth the art site Etsy.com and the struggle it is currently facing to keep it's user base, fellow artist's like us on deviantART. It is a very interesting read, to say the least, and will surely raise a few eyebrows.

Gangs:No Peace Until There Is Peace In Our Streets

*DAPoliticalForum:iconDAPoliticalForum: reports, July 12
:star: Gangs in the United States are not a new or recent phenomenon. Their history has been traced back to the post Revolutionary War days and originally they formed as a means of self-protection and as social clubs.

Skills to Survive Life: Part One

=druideye:icondruideye: reports, July 11
Are you depressed? Do you feel like you are a failure? Do you feel empty inside? Do you sometimes end up harming yourself, or punishing yourself in some way? Do you find yourself unable to handle stress sometimes?

This might help. Give it a read, it might change your life. It changed mine.

DENYING THE POVERTY DRAFT-THE SOLDIER AS A SYMBOL

=whitetrashpalace:iconwhitetrashpalace: reports, July 9
The Poverty Draft, Politics, Symbols, and the inconvenience of being human.

Even in times of war, the Soldier as an individual is of no consequence. The Soldier is a symbol, a simple pawn in a culture war. The Soldier is either a villain, or a Hero. The Soldier always serves for the honor of his country, not his paycheck. The Soldier is faithful, as there are 'no atheists in the trenches'. The Soldier is Combat Arms. The Soldier is male, he married a young white girl, and he has a baby on the way, whom he has never met.

The Soldier is a romantic ideal.

Guide To Fixing The Icons Gallery

=ipholio:iconipholio: reports, January 20, 2007
The Icons gallery a misused mêlée of art theft, unauthorized art reuse, mis-categorizations and under-representations. These troubles cannot be dealt with properly without most or all of the following concepts occurring or being heavily considered. Thus, this list has been compiled to be a checklist of sorts for administration.

Removal Of Unused Or Expendable Icons Tiers

:pointr: eIcons - We were under the assumption it had finally been removed, but the locked gallery is still present.
:pointr: mp3text - All [unlikely] submissions, as with eIcons, would be relocated to Miscellaneous.
:pointr: Buddy Icons - All submissions would be relocated Avatars> Messenger Display.
:pointr: Signature Banners - Category moved under Designs & Interfaces; Gallery description also needs expansion including strict rules about copyrighted image reuse.

Relocation Of And The Creation Of New Icons Tiers

Avatars
:pointr: Avatars> deviantART
:pointr: Avatars> Messenger Display [AOL, Windows Live Messenger [msn], Trillian, et cetera]
:pointr: Avatars> Miscellaneous

Emoticons
:pointr: Emoticons> Static
:pointr: Emoticons> Animated
:pointr: Emoticons> Projects

File And Size Limitations

These are to be appended to the gallery descriptions. Bear in mind this only concerns the actual file, not preview.

Avatars
:pointr: Avatars> deviantART - .Gif, .Png, .Jpeg; .Zip, .Rar; 50*50 pixels maximum/minimum size.
:pointr: Avatars> Messenger Display - .Gif, .Png, .Jpeg, .Zip, .Rar; 50*50 pixels to 100*100 pixels.
:pointr: Avatars> Miscellaneous - .Gif, .Png, .Jpeg, .Zip, .Rar; 25*25 pixels to 150*150 pixels

Cursors
:pointr: .Ani, .Rar, .Zip; 32*32, any file over this limit [such as multiple cursors in one deviation that transcend this maximum value] automatically warrants the necessity of a preview image and archival file [.rar, zip.].

Dock Icons
:pointr: .Png, .Rar, .Zip; Preferably 128*128 or 256*256.

Emoticons
:pointr: .Gif, ,Png, .Zip, .Rar; Any emoticon submission over 100*100 pixels automatically warrants the use of a preview image

IconPackager
:pointr: .Ip, .Iptheme, .Iconpackage, .Rar, .Zip

OS Icons
:pointr: *NIX - .Icon, .Png, .Rar, .Svg, .Tif(f), .Xpm, .Zip; 16*16, 32*32, 48*48, 72*72, 96*96, 128*128, 256*256
:pointr: Mac OS - .Icns, .Dmg, .Png, .Sit; 16*16, 32*32, 48*48, 72*72, 96*96, 128*128, 256*256
:pointr: Windows - .Ico, .Icl, .Png, .Rar, .Zip; 16*16, 32*32, 48*48, 72*72, 96*96, 128*128, 256*256

New Gallery Director

:pointr: Bring on another Gallery Director to manage Cursors, Dock Icons, OS Icons, & IconPackager; ^livius manages Avatars, Emoticons, Miscellaneous. This particular division of galleries between directors isn't necessarily the rule, but would provide for both directors to equally shoulder Icons as a whole.

Creation Of New And Replacement Of Outdated Gallery Icons

:pointr: Avatars> deviantART
:pointr: Avatars> Messenger Display
:pointr: Avatars> Miscellaneous
:pointr: Cursors
:pointr: IconPackager
:pointr: Miscellaneous
:pointr: OS Icons

Removal Of Shadows On Gallery Browse Pages

:pointr: Avatars
:pointr: Emoticons

Nice little compilation of ideas. :aww:

Though, wouldn't it have been better to note $Moonbeam13 or ^livius about this? They seem to be the appropriate party to deal with this.

I've already exchanged notes with $Moonbeam13 for a while now. She stated she would like to hear our views, so we opted to make it a news article to both share our views and gather community support.

[It's] An editorial directly related to the Icons gallery of deviantART, so yes.
`lazybutt:iconlazybutt: Jan 21, 2007, 12:07:01 AM
She said post it in a news article?

I personally don't think that was the smartest thing to do -- perhaps a journal would have been better, bring the attention of her to your journal instead of making a news article about the whole thing.

But, I think the news has been slowly going down-hill the past month or two. So, this will blend right in.
`lazybutt:iconlazybutt: Jan 21, 2007, 12:07:51 AM
It's not posted in the editorial news section. :o
